Quote from: tower912 on February 19, 2025, 06:12:15 AMMU did lose the turnover, blocked shot, and FT% battles.

An extra true ball handler would have been nice on this team with regard to those turnovers.  Kam was missed while sitting out during a stretch in the second half when Hall extended their defense and pressured the ball handlers. Caedin had a lot to do with it too.

Yes, Ben landed poorly on that first drive and was clearly hobbled.  When they showed him fiddling with his feet, it appeared to me that he had a new style of shoes, ones with more cushion. It was difficult to tell after that.  And I could be wrong.
He played a solid game after that.  Similar to how he played in the first half of the conference season.  A couple of 3s, solid defense, some rebounds.  The two successful drives were a nice bonus.

I wasn't wrong, just early.

I was just kidding anyway.  He is a difference maker but Seton Hall just doesn't have enough of them to make up for the rest of their teammates.

Well, we did as we would hope against a weak team.
Friday's coming. Time to prove we're good.

uconn still plays at StJ, but not sure I see another loss on Xavier's schedule. If MU can close 3-2 that should do it...but at Nova, at UConn home for StJ is definitely not a cakewalk.

Four straight winning seasons in conference under Shaka after just 2 in the 8 seasons prior to his arrival.

I have said it before, I will say it again, the way Owens is built, his athleticism, how he moves, how he dunks, even a little bit of the form on his 3 pt shot, all remind me of a young Rodman.

Hilarious sequence. The way he fell was so dramatic.

The defense being so good despite not turning SHU over was encouraging, although SHU stinks so who knows.  Thought the bigs made a slight adjustment in that they were hugging their man on the perimeter if the guy is right at the 3 point line, but not as much if they're an extra 5 feet out like they had been before.  I'm a fan of that.  Can hedge/help on dribble handoffs against guys who are 3 point threats when they're in range.

Quote from: Shooter McGavin on February 19, 2025, 06:14:45 AMLove Zaides easy athleticism.  Glad Owens had a game and his athleticism is impressive as well.  Great that Ben broke out but that first layup attempt showed that his right leg is not 100%.  Glad Tre contributed on offense.  He does finish drives well.  Either gets fouled or makes the layup.  Good hesitation and plays off two feet. Some guys have a knack for that and it is a necessary trait for an under the rim player. Agree with 82, Kam is about a centimeter away from booking threes again. I liked the confidence in the pulls last night.  Many in and out.  Don't love Stevie's wrist injury.  Need to tape the left wrist and hope it doesn't affect him too much.  I still cringe every time Jop dribbles. Great game to get some of the cob webs out.

I think they take Villanova again.

Villanova in the last 5 games against MU has not shown any real ability to guard. Dixon can't guard on the perimeter and some of their guards don't contain dribble penetration well. They can certainly beat us. They are at home and have talent. But it's a good matchup for us.

Con: not enough midrange

Wanted to comment I've really liked Zaide's confidence bringing the all up court yesterday and he's had a few nice drives recently.

I'm expecting a big leap from him next season.

The Good
1. Great to see Gold get out of his funk
2. Help defending looked better
3. Great to see us hit the boards
4. 3 Point shooting.  Where have you been.  Welcome for sore eyes
5. The second unit contributed, and you can see the confidence in them

The Bad
1. Stevie not looking to shoot.  Need him healthy and not be afraid to take shoot from outside the paint.
2. Some silly turnovers

The Ugly
1. Seton Hall
2. The end of the first half.  That sequence can't happen.

NGE!! I had not heard that before from Shaka.  If I had it went right over my head.

Yep. And Seton Hall had a February buy game against UConn just a few days earlier.

Zaide, Tre, and Damarius have the potential to be very solid all-round players.  I think once they get consistent minutes, they'll be far more relaxed on the court.  Royce also can be much more than a spot shooter.  The question is can DO and RP get there defensively and on the d-glass next year.
