At least 24 cases of measles have been detected in Gaines County, Texas, the state's Department of State Health Services (DSHS) said this week as it warned that additional cases were likely given the highly infectious nature of the disease.

None of the 24 infected individuals had been immunized with the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, the health authority said. Two of them are adults, and the other 22 are children. Nine patients were hospitalized.

Excellent news.  This will help naturally immunize the population.

Someone in my family is clearly pro-vax their whole life.  Saw Polio and the subsequent vaccination campaign as a child.  Recognizes the success.  Gets her Flu & Pneumonia shot religiously

Totally anti-COVID vaccine.  Feels lied to - only lasts six months - no one should have to take it.  When I point out that the Flu/other seasonal vaccines are the same.  Just repeats more talking points.  It's amazing to me how someone not on social media and that understands the benefits of vaccines is so dug in.  To someone's point above - its going to get worse.

Does anyone know if vaccinated adults should refresh their vaccines periodically knowing that we may not be able to rely on herd immunity anymore?

I went to India in 2019 and 2023 and had all my vaccine status checked and had a whole list brought up to current including measles.

Good thing we just fired literally the entire 1,400 person staff of the group responsible for tracing disease outbreaks for the CDC.

Update: I asked my PCP about need for booster.  They ordered blood work to test if booster needed.  So I guess I'll know shortly.

This morning we're watching a red tailed hawk sitting in my neighbors driveway.  She's called several people as to what to do and was told to stay away as the raptor probably has bird flu.  Basically let the bird die, wear an N95 and gloves, then double bag in Clorox and disinfect the clothes and wash right away.

No sanctuary wants to rescue as will affect birds already in the shelter.
