Server Upgrade
« on: September 09, 2024, 09:54:33 AM »
Well, it's far past time, but I'm working on a server upgrade this week.

What's that mean?  As some point...the website will go down...possibly for a couple days.  I'll update this topic as I know more and things are happening.

Well, step 1 didn't go so well...

Sorry to know that. Kindly do wait and you will soon have an update to the server as Admins will be doing it for all servers

No, I'm serious.  I'm done here.  I'm going elsewhere

I do understand your concern. Sorry that this is as the migration is required for the server

I'll just find a new hosting company and let you guys rot

Refund works when the Migration is done by Admins and moved to a new server

Please know that migrating yourself will not help with the refund of current plan

Sure! Will help with the purchase

Ok, I'm not paying for migration, I'll do that myself

I can see you do have 3 cPanel accounts. It will be $149.99 per cPanel and also charges to purchase new plan. And amount for current plan will be refunded back to you on prorated terms

I'm not sure I have a clear picture of what they're trying to communicate to you beyond the fact that they're going to bill you $450 for whatever it is they're getting up to.

Those replies sound very AI-ish.

Yeah, I requested a server upgrade since ours is on (ancient) Centos 6 (EOL Nov 2020).  This is a dedicated "managed" server, and obviously' we've been hosted with them forever.  As expected, they said I'd have to pay for the new server, but would get a prorated credit for our current server.  But then, they said I'd have to pay to migrate the sites since the new server (AlmaLinux) isn't compatible with Centos.  I said no...I'll migrate, just setup the new server.  So then they said "Sorry, no prorated credit for you".

Ok, new sever is provisioned (with a new hosting company...no...this isn't it).

I'll start attempting to move stuff in the next couple days, but everything should stay active here in the meantime...

When isn't a 'cooling off period' a good idea here?

We're going to send everyone to their respective corners of the internet so we can come up with fresh conspiracy theories and talking points to enable us to fight about new things.

So more of a period of refreshment than cooling off.

According to Facebook, that is what 'they' want you to think.

The Scoop server upgrade should be done in March to make sure the new server can handle peak capacity.

Finally completed a few transfer tests, and those went well.  After dark, I'll put MUScoop into maintenance mode to transfer all the data, and it may stay that way until morning.

Once the transfer is complete, and I open it back up ... everything will still be "here".  But I'll be running some tests on the new server and fixing whatever gets broken before the final changeover.

There hasn't been an update for 5 days, I'm starting to get concerned our dates are slipping. The shareholders will not be please.
