I'm not disappointed that we lost but it's how we lost. I always felt that Shaka was a second half guy and we have seen so many examples of the guys just turning it up a notch in the second half. To see us kind of wilt like that was really uncharacteristic.

I definitely do not blame the refs. It was just poor play in the second half overall. I know Kam was dealing with the fouls but other than that early 3 pointer he had a very poor second half.

I kind of felt like I was watching Dayton Out-Marquette us in the second half. Getting easy shots, forcing turnovers, making threees.

Very good post and much how I feel. If we're the team rallying and come up short, I would feel very differently. Up 10 at the half and 13 in the second, that's when you need to step on the throat, and instead we wilted.

What? We have Ben, everybody's boy. We have Parham,who spends all his time jacking 3s, just like Ben. Shaka allows this.
This game exposed it all about thus team. Out hustled, out muscled, outrebounded by smaller guys. Totally totally, totally unacceptable and unexcused. When you get outplayed by a good mid major, that is what you are, a mid major.
Now let the drum roll begin in  two...one...but the zebras, but Kams fouls, but life in the road, etc. There were plenty of bone headed plays made by Kam, by Mitchell by GooollllddddBrick. That out of bounds play where he received the ball and then handed it to the opponent for an easy toss in was a doozy. Maybe it was plays like that caused him to be bounced from New Zealand national team. When you vet players are not getting it done, this is what happens.

Well Dayton gets last laugh, yet again.  We couldn't even beat them with Dwyane Wade on our side.  Time to just throw in the towel and water down the Big East more by adding Dayton and St. Thomas.  The Big East has become an embarrassment anyways with another disastrous non-conference season and early flameouts every March besides one other school not named Marquette.  We've proven time and time again we can't even handle Dayton regardless of who our coach is so I guess we're both mid-majors. Maybe they were the biggest game on our schedule, and not the other way around.  Congrats to Mike Broeker for exposing us as frauds with his "brilliant" scheduling.  Hopefully they'll beat us again next year at home to show they are more Big East worthy than we are. 

Sadly, my preseason concerns about this team were exposed tonight.  You can't consistently win without any inside post play and rebounding.  Caeden Hamilton is our only player who is a classic 5 who can score with his back to the basket and rebound.  However it's pretty clear he won't be the answer this year... and he hasn't shown much for me to believe he'll be the answer going forward beyond this year either. 

I thought maybe this team might be different and be able to always beat a team they are better than, which last two year's teams couldn't do with constant losses to average Wisconsin teams.  With a ten point lead at half it looked that this team might be different and mentally stronger, however the second half provided all the answers we needed to know about this team.  In short we are not a top 10 team and our ceiling is another Sweet 16... and sadly even that looks unlikely now.

It was a very bad second half and out of character. Disappointing that they did not close out non conference with an exclamation point, but they did not.

Last year I felt they had a 4-5 game run post Maui that they did not look great and am hoping this is a one half thing over 4-5 games. No excuses, simply think they played poorly and were out hustled, which does not happen often.

Thankfully we had our three granddaughters over for a sleepover and watching the game closely was not easy. I did not get a chance to get all pissed off and very happy about that.

Exactly.  And the stat sheet shows it.  Marquette got out rebounded, out assisted, and turned the ball over more than Dayton.

Did it suck that Kam got that quick 3rd foul in the second half?  Yep! but he has to be smarter than that and avoid it.

The rotation changes you asked for needs to be asked of Shaka. That is his job and his personnel.

I agree with this analysis. Golden age of MU basketball at the moment.  Enjoy it (even if the refs let Dayton play much more physical perimeter defense than we were able to last night.)  But that of course isn't the only reason we lost.
