I assume we all agree usurping this game is IMPERATIVE.  How and where would you attack?  What are some of you concerns if any?  Soriano?

The key to the game will be making baskets

Make 3's at a 40% clip, win.  Continue to shoot in the 20's from 3, lose.

I am thinking if we score more points than they do, that will be the key to the game.

We beat Nova comfortably shooting less than 40% from distance.

tower912

Do you think SJU is going to play defense in the paint?  As opposed to whatever it was that Nova was doing?

Pitino plans to cancel MU's layup practice.

Why is everyone so pessimistic?  I think we'll be okay.

1. As Tower said Nova had a horrendous strategy

2. Blatant difference, that was home. SJU is away.

If we dont start making shots on the road, we will keep losing road games.

It really seems that simple. The teams does enough other things well (aside from rebounding) that they should win most games if they shoot open threes at an average clip.

Getting granular on offensive sets/schemes seems to be futile. Because in the end the team is getting open looks against every type of defense.  If three point shooting is our kryptonite, the team is just not going to be as good as we all hoped.

tower912

Yes.  MU continues to get open looks from 3.   The way to punish teams that take away the paint is to make the open looks.

The past number of years, the Johnnies played a very ball hawking disruptive defense.  So, it comes down to which team is more disruptive to the other team's offense.  Deflections, traps, steals, errant passes, 10 second violations, shot clock violations, rushed shots, etc..

Is that sicko gonna be back from "Covid" or whatever he caught from Sypher?

Different team. Not the same to heavy def this year (or last)

StJ has a lot of old dudes, though, and they get a lot of second chances.  Don't like those facts for MU

They shoot like crap, so hopefully they don't get lucky on a few extra shots tomorrow. That'll be the diff. If there are a couple of banked in treys, fouled 3's, buckets after 2x o boards... start crying

Let's hope thats not the case as Marquette has only shot at a 40% clip from Three, twice this season.

On offense, don't be afraid of their bigs. They are a good offensive rebounding team but an atrocious defensive rebounding team. We need Oso, Jop, and the guards to all hit the offensive glass because opportunities will be there. Also be willing to wait for a good look. This isn't Mike Anderson frenetic paced St. John's, but they still like to play at tempo and have the depth edge on us.

Defensively, stay connected. They will get some offensive boards, so we may need to defend in possessions for 30-45 seconds. Pressure their guards, both Jenkins and Dingle can be forced into mistakes.

Muggs - why be concerned? Ummm ...

MU is still not shooting well.

MU has been pretty damn bad in true road games.

We have a very short bench.

Pitino ....

Can they win ? Sure.  But it's a toss up

I think Tower is saying 40% is liekly a guarenteed win,  29% is likely a guarenteed loss, and in between those two points could go either way.

That's not that far off from being 100% accurate this season
