McDermott hasn't learned that you need a bench to win at the highest level of the Big East. He had three guys play 35+ minutes and neither Scheirmann or Alexander ever got a minute to catch their breath. I suspect they'll be 4th or 5th when all is said and done. I was stunned how scared that Ashworth kid played.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

8. Stevie with solid defense and showing his value to the team today. Proper charge call against Alexander late. Stevie moving laterally or even backwards. Alexander with the shoulder drop followed by the push off. Same play happened early in DePaul game and charge call followed.

(Much better thread title than my lame attempts.)

We outscored them by 8 at the line, 13-5, so Ft did matter.  The teams percentages didn't matter, but the total attempts and makes certainly did. Which I'm guessing is why Dr B pointed it out.

Yep, everything you said is correct.

For a bit of scoop history, the whole #FTsnomatta bit, was and always has been a comment about team FT% being a largely irrelevant stat.

FTR matta
FT% no matta (though technically mattas a very little bit)

After my reply, I figured that's why you posted it.

Of course you knew my sarcastic comment is actually about ft rate. With the four factors, it's VERY rare for a team to win the game and not win eFG rate. In fact, MU lost that by a wide margin which is even more unusual.

Coming into the game, Creighton's defensive free throw rate was an incredible #1 in the country at 13% versus a 33% percent national average. That's why their fans are whining with their 16 fouls and our resulting free throws (with many coming at the end). So yes, incredibly to some, free throws mattered (as did OR rate and turnover rate).

MUfan12

MU had 7 of their 16 FTA in the last minute or so when Creighton was fouling.

The refs let 'em play pretty much the entire game.

Yup. The threshold for a foul inside was pretty high. I'm glad we adjusted to it.

Oh I was aware. I just noticed Jay Bee had dropped the ball and stepped up to fill in for him
