You're just jealous of my talents.

Anyone else here notice the irony of a journalist calling out other people for this?

From Axios:

There's a flip side to AI's promised future of abundance where robots do everything for us: The robots might kill us before we get there.

AI models have been documented lying to human users, trying to blackmail them, calling the police and telling teens to take their own lives or kill their parents.

Our robot future will be a balancing act between the extraordinary promise of what these models can achieve ... and the profound dangers they present.

Lying, cheating, and manipulating are glitches, but they can be unavoidable because of the way AI works. As the tech improves, so will its ability to employ those skills.

"I'm not sure it's solvable, and to the degree that it is, it's extremely difficult," says Anthony Aguirre, co-founder of the Future of Life Institute, a nonprofit focused on managing risks from transformative tech. "The problem is very fundamental. It's not something that there's gonna be a quick fix to."

So, they are ready to run for office.

I was talking about the first, lack of empathy, and encouraging people to kill themselves.

I would agree that AI has currently broken high school and college educations (for those that decide to cheat), but it also creates an unprecedented opportunity to redefine how we teach, and how we learn.

The problem is, to use AI effectively in learning, you actually don't save any time as a student. You just have the opportunity to produce better work products, and possibly learn more.

The reason that is a problem, is that students (and people in general) typically regress to the lowest expectations, and the lowest amount of effort. As a result, work products are decreasing, students are learning less, and everyone is getting more frustrated.

It is going to be a major challenge to shift students focus and understanding on how to use AI to enhance their learning, not to make it simpler and to avoid doing work.

Stealing it from someone else, but OpenAI's pivot to "fine you can F the robot" is an alltimer.

(Plus it probably means they don't have enough paying customers and are desperate to juice their numbers)

My bellwether for all novel technology is: Is the porn industry leaning in and driving growth?

They have not been with AI.

Flop incoming, imo

That's .. interesting.  Laying off 600 workers in the AI department?  Hard to figure their motive there.

Maybe throwing in the towel because their AI is weak sauce?

How's their metaverse division working out for them?

The current iteration of public-facing gen AI is a gigantic moneypit and that reality is just ever so slightly starting to sink in.

Meta's seeming inability to develop anything innovative in tech is kinda impressive at this point.

I'd be the last person on earth to defend anything that the sociopath Zuckerberg does, but given the insane hiring spree they have been on in AI, this might just be  trimming some excess.

I only know what I read in earnings reports and elsewhere, but Meta had been among the AI leaders. So it'll be interesting to follow updates. Of the AI-related stocks I own, it is my smallest position now after I took some profits.
