Obligatory Crean to IU Post
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:01:57 PM »
So here in Chicago, I'm already hearing the IU fans saying Crean is headed to IU.  As it's been a while, can someone post Crean's latest contract info and where he ranks among DI hoops coaches in compensation?  Also, if I recall correctly, the rumor is that Crean only has an out for MSU.  Long and short of it is that I think Crean has it too good at MU and I don't think he's going anywhere.  That said, the quicker we throw the contract and buyout numbers out to the IU faithful, the quicker we can shut them up!   ;D

BTW... this post is not intended to be a Crean bashing post... you hear me PRN & 4ever?  Stay out!!

Come on now, let's be realistic.  Everyone knows Crean is going to Miami to be reunited with Dwyane Wade now that Shaq is gone.

Skiles is from Indiana, correct?  Why did he go to East Lansing?  What happened with his IU recruitment?

I think that Scott liked the Doobie Brothers a little too much for the General's liking.

I realize Indiana is a premier job but why would a premier coach want to go to a place where there will undoubtedly be recruiting restrictions and other NCAA punishments.

Crean will never take the MSU job. Why would he want to follow Izzo? That's a no-win situation. Cleaning up after Sampson would be a much better situation, but I doubt he'll leave.

Skiiles, Bennett, Dakich.    Once again, why would Crean go somewhere else with bigger problems for less money and less control?   This one will cause me no worries whatsoever.

I agree I do not see Crean having interest in teh Indiama job.  You also have to factor in that the outgoing coach was an Izzo assistant. Do they replace him with anoother former Izzo assistant. I do not think so. The new coach will have Indiana bloodlines.

Now that Castro is out, Crean is being mentioned for the Cuba job.

Everyone knows that Bobby Knight will get the Indiana job.  Why else would he resign mid season, one week before the crap hit the fan for Sampson.  Knight had a heads up on what was going down.

That would be a pretty remarkable coincidence, but I have a hard time seeing IU wanted Knight back after he was already fired.

Knight resigned mid-season b/c he feels he is bigger than anyone else so he can quit on his team and players whom he demands to be 100% committed.  No way Indiana hires him again after they worked so hard to get rid of him.  I think Isiah Thomas is more likely to get the job as Knight and we all know that's not going to happen.

Too Funny.  I like the image of Crean's first big press conference having U2 songs play in the backround to an incredulous Cuban audience.

Skiles was never offered by Indiana and actually did not sign with MSU until the spring of his senior year.  Sort of like a Diener in a lot of ways...when you looked at him your first impression was that guy cant play.  He did not have the benefit of playing AAu ball to show his ability against the nations finest.  People began to truly beleive in him after he destroyed the teams from Indy, Gary, and Marion that were loaded with big time D1 recruits.  At one point Skiles was the only guy in the NBA who could not dunk, portly, short, slow etc.  Nevertheless, he went on to be Big Ten MVP, 1st team all-american and MSu all time leading scorer.

I heard IU will be very interested in Jim Harrick if Sampson is indeed fired.

I told an IU buddy the same thing. He wasn't happy when they hired Sampson originally.

interesting you bring his name up.. sampson made his name at WashSU and ditched them as they were becoming annual contenders to go to OklaU.. you know the story with him at OklaU and now at Indiana.. however sampson may have the chance to indirectly screw over WashSU again.. if he gets ushered out at IU some there say they are interested in offering the job to Dick Bennett's son, Tony Bennett... who is now head coach at.. yep WashSU.
