McDermott's comments about it https://youtube.com/shorts/KXgUPsoawvQ?feature=share

I saw the anti-Shaka coverage on Youtube for his jump and rapid walk through Creighton handshake line at the end of the game, but crap thrown is uncool, bad precedent.

Anyone with any details?

Classy on McD's part.     Chastising his fans who acted inappropriately.     Apologizing for being wrong.      Well done.
There were multiple references to it in multiple threads.

The legendary MU/UNC game in 86, objects, supposedly pennies, were thrown at a UNC player from the student section.

Sadly, this isn't new.    But it is never right.

I was there, the Creighton fans treated us very nicely.  The end of the game was the loudest I have ever heard....by far.  They gave towels away and some got throw on the floor but I didn't see anything thrown at the bench.  I was across from the bench though.  I will say it is a great venue and the fans were very into Creighton and very knowledgeable and nobody gave us a hard time.

Shaka's comments in the Thursday Basketball Hour made it pretty clear he didn't have the highest regard for Creighton fans. Their antics did not go unnoticed.

True.  This sort of thing is never acceptable.  Except for the time when a Marquette fan dumped a beer on Digger Phelps as he walked off the floor.

tower912

Epic at the time.  Considering MU was 0-8 against ND during my time, that may have been my favorite ND memory.   I was in the student section and was close enough to see it happen.   I was too poor to waste beer, even on Digger, so it wasn't me.

But that doesn't mean it was right.

Have a specific time during broadcast where he talked about it for us?
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Opposing fans only throw objects at winning programs. That was a positive sign to me that program is going uptown.

Stats around the 10 minute mark on the podcast. Alludes back to it at 16. Might mention it again later.

He was definitely edgier after the win than normal. Part of that was obviously the stakes of the game and the competitiveness of the game. And I think a bit of a culmination of seeing a team picked 9th by the conference's coaches hopefully stick a dagger in the rest of the conference, winning at the team chasing them most closely, with 3 games still to play. But it was the most I've heard that chip on the shoulder coming out from him.

Shaka has definitely stepped up his game over the past 6-7 weeks. He is far more intense and looks like he feels that this might be a very big opportunity for the program to make some noise. I felt that the win now mindset has definitely become the theme for the season.

Curious, how come you stopped posting "defense travels" after the games? It seemed like you made a point to get that in for the first third of the season.

Thank you CR!  Was great to listen to.  Ty.  Loved Shaka talking about Creighton getting upset with calls when she brought that up.   That was a great moment lol

How far MU has come... from pouring beer on Digger to an NBA ND alum sitting courtside in a TK jersey!

Didn't pour a beer on Phelps but went to the DePaul game with an alum who poured a beer on an obnoxious ND fan at the 1979 blizzard game. He got arrested for inciting a riot but had the charges eventually dropped thanks to appearing before an understanding MU alum judge.

Sports fandoms are so fickle. Everybody cheered for Pat for wearing an MU jersey at the game but those same people turned and shouted "sucks" and booed him for his first two years at ND when he was at one of our two biggest traditional rivals.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Merely applauding his conversion.

I'm confident he wasn't cheering for us back in December and next years rematch I doubt he'll be "yay Milwaukee team" then.

Much like Brook Lopez, I have grown to view Pat in a much better light than I did during his college days.

So cheer him wearing a ND jersey, as an MU rival. Yes.
Cheer for him as an NBA champ wearing an MU jersey sitting courtside? Also, yes.
What am I missing here?

That he's permanently an MU rival. If Kaminsky or Dekker suddenly appeared courtside in an MU jersey do we cheer him? I certainly wouldn't. I may laugh, but not cheer.
