When to Theo's once.  Had a hot tip that they didn't card, so about 8 of us freshman marched down there from McCormick and were promptly bounced back to campus.  🤣🤣

Congrats for taking the FFP crown. I love it. It is an exclusive group to be part of it and love that represent it well.

I remember showing up at move in day at MU.  Outside of McCormick there were people high fiving each other and I  remember thinking "WTF, I'm really behind meeting people".  They were all FFP freshmen who knew each other from the summer and had a blast.  I ended up marrying one though and am friends with most of them in my class to this day.  FFP was a great program.

I am still 54 (turning 55 soon).  Attended Marquette from September 94 through May 97.  Drove out to Milwaukee from Southern California without ever having visited campus.  Very excited to be there and was placed in Schroeder Hall for a week before my permanent spot in the old YMCA building (now Straz Tower???) was assigned to me.  That place is still the smallest place I have ever lived.  Was it 100 square feet?  Just enough space for a single bed and a desk.  From there I "moved up" to the Biltmore Apartments.  By the time I got there, the Biltmore was on its last legs.  Soon to be demolished, nothing was repaired unless absolutely necessary.  The bathroom sink had separate faucets, one for hot water and one for cold.  After the Biltmore I moved to the East Side where I lived on Frederick Street for my final year in Milwaukee.

Does anyone remember a place called Theo's?  It was on Wisconsin Ave near the library.  When I lived in the YMCA building it was a short walk for me and my buddies, so we went there quite a bit.  Played many songs on the jukebox over and over again.  We knew a foreign exchange student from Japan who spoke very little English, but knew all the words to "bad to the bone."  B-b-b-b-ad.

Can't believe so much has changed since then.  The Biltmore, Theo's both gone (not just closed but the buildings demolished).  Progress!!!

I remember Theos well.  Hung out there a ton when I lived at the Y.  John Garakas was the owner.

"mug644 and I were on the 7th floor McCormick 84-85.    Lurch91 and I are friends.

Hey Tower, I am '89, same era though. My son(MU'22) and his frosh roommate and family were walking during orientation and asked what is was like to live at McCormick. I said it was what you would think when you put 800 plus 18 yr old boy/men into a tenament with minimal supervision.

I still text almost daily with a bunch of them on thread, that this time of year, has mostly to do with MU hoops.

Cool to have yet another big overlap, Manny. It was cool when Tower and I realized that we'd been posting similar thoughts and ended up that we lived on the same floor at McCormick in 84-85. To your descriptionr to your son, I'd add that it was overlooking the Ardmore (from my room 703) or the span of Wells Street (from, what, 711 to 729?) or down to Schroeder to across Wisconsin to campus (715 to 730?) How many rooms were on each floor in McCormick? Counting, or not, the quads just across from the elevators. What fun, what memories, and what a life changing experience MU was.

Someone mentioned playing pool on Fridays at Brooks Memorial Union. Damn was that a thing for me and my roommates. Of course, my Scoop name is from my Mugrack days, and I was active in ASMU and so was happy to have a desk right near the Mugrack, the pool tables and the stage ("Da Bodeans" had some of their earliest performances there).

I've not seen anyone mention Block Party yet. Our class saw the end of it. We had Fall '84 and Spring '85, then was Fall '86 the last Block Party? I don't recall the specifics, but remember realizing that it was the end of an era.

Freshman year at the Mecca, sophomore year opened the Bradley Center.

Ate numerous breakfasts with Bob Dukiet in the McCormick dining hall. Not a great coach but he was always nice to the MU students.

Took the Hegartys bus to Notre Dame my freshman year to catch the ND-MU game. Had a keg in the back of the bus and stopped at every rest area along the way.

Missed the Block Party's, but enjoyed numerous Mr. Jiggle's Jamborees - at the Milwaukee Domes and the lakefront (Milwaukee Gun Club???)

Worked at the Mugrack in BMU and The Pub in AMU.  Lots of good bands played the unions on Friday nights - Blake Babies, Sonic Youth, Soul Asylum, Goo Goo Dolls, to name a few.

Won a bong once at the raffle at Green Tree. Also frequented the usual haunts - Lanche, Murphys, OD's, O'Paguets, Ardmore, Glocca Mora, Theos, Hegartys, Good Time Charlies, etc.

Listened to Gerald Posey tell a group of us about his wild recruitment stories and how he ended up at MU (basically Dukiet was the only guy who didn't offer him money), but he left MU the following year.

Loved going to the basketball games, even though our class has the worst winning percentage for MU basketball since World War II.

Class of '79.

Second floor McCormick freshman year. Four South Schroeder sophomore and junior years - any other old Moosemen on the board? Apartment on 23rd near Wells senior year.

Called the Ardmore home. Still have my mug. Ben was primary bartender/manager/maybe owner.

I always wondered why I'm one of the "latest" nighttime posters on scoop, and now it makes more sense  :P

FWIW I used to be able to stay up until 1AM with ease, and now it's a struggle to crack midnight...

Of my friend group I'm the only ardent Scoop poster.  A few lurk.  One (ASMU) was active during the Fire Wojo SZN before the Blog Boys saved us.  Many are as passionate as I am but think I'm nuts for being on here (they're the nuts one!).

My son joined last year.  He's 14.  It was hilarious seeing his posts midday during the school year. We cleaned that up by going from 8th grade to MUHS, now he actually has to study.

I couldn't survive without scoop.  The only thing I refresh more is KenPom.

I am completely addicted to the basketball talk on scoop the last two years and in overdrive right now. Two of my sons lurk, but not registered. That said, one lurks a ton and quoted posts back to me.

I originally signed up with Rocky's Buy One Get One Black Friday Sale deal.  Gave the other membership to my wife for Christmas.  She loved it. Best $10,000 I ever spent.

Tortuga94

Graduated MU in 99.
Freshman year was 93/94 last Warrior class. Lived in O'Donnell 2nd floor Freshman year.
Lived at home my 2nd year, my parents lived across the 16th street bridge on 22nd & Pierce I would sometimes walk to school if the weather wasn't too crappy. Year 3 I took a break from school. Too much partying and having fun year 1 & 2. Needed some time to really think about whether college right was for me or not. Came back year 4, lived at 1425 Kilbourn. Years 5 & 6 was technically living at home again with my parents but most of the time I would crash with friends on campus. Didn't drink at the campus bars too often but spent way too much money eating at Louie D's, Real Chili and Marquette Gyros.

If I knew that someday I would not be banned, I would take advantage of that President Day's said for the whole family. Would hate to be the only one not on scoop if I got banned.

For $10,000 you are protected from being banned, but only for that subscription year.

Banning, and revival are part of the Scoop ritual.  It's included as part of lifetime memberships.

Ah loved the Ardmore bar! Art was the bartender I remember.   What a great joint with the Spanish Eyes pinball macinine in the NE cornet pas5 the pool 5able!

The Ardmore I knew had decor like the Grand Avenue mall in a blender with Miami Vice.   Import night was a great way to kick off the weekend on Wednesday.  And the occasional karaoke.
