If manatee is available in the stores, it is so much better than iguana. Iguana is a "poor man's" manatee.

Manatees have the same disposition as Newfoundlands. They are a protected species and have rights.

How is it sad?  They are a reptile version of nuisance rodents in Florida.  They destroy infrastructure, eat endangered snails and insects that otherwise have limited natural predators, and have negative effects on numerous specific plant species.  They are also relatively intelligent reptiles so they are even more problematic and clever in their destruction.

I'm a huge animal supporter and conservationist, but there is literally nothing good about iguanas in Florida.  Its the same for Lionfish.  Lionfish are absolutely GORGEOUS magnificent fish, loved and admired throughout both marine biology and the aquarium hobby.  But they are also invasive to the Florida coastal waters and absolutely WRECK the natural ecosystem so I'm fully in support of people harpooning them by the kilo.
