We don't have any players on this team who is what they will become.

Shaka admitted we are not particularly good at iso ball.  Move the freaking rock, it can't just be Kolek creating or the TK/Oso two-man game.  The quick threes have me a little concerned frankly.  Especially when Freshmen enter the game and the second the see that they can launch from three they let it fly instead of moving the ball and looking for a better shot, and a in rhythm shot.  We are so much better with catch and shoots than trifectas off the dribble.  And you can get a three off the dribble late in the shotclock if nothing else is available.  Shot selection is vital for this group and better h-c execution is imperative if we're going to beat tournament caliber teams.

It's easy to overlook things like this when the game is such a massive blowout, but I agree with you Muggsy. Not enough self-discipline.

What in the first season + of the Smart era has led you to think that freshmen don't get a green light?   Everybody is supposed to play aggressively. Threes and at the rim.  The process is for the new guys to figure out when they shoot and when they move the ball.  Right now,  Sean and Ben are learning.

Respect the process.

A lot of coaches will tell you that simply telling players to move the ball and not to shoot is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Players should always look for their shot first and foremost. But learning what is a good shot and when to take it is a not something easily taught. Hopefully experience will lead to better results in that regard.

No one was trying. Marquette won by 37. The quick threes are good shots minus Kam's inability to know how close to the line he is. Marquette's freshmen are overperforming their quantitative expectations no matter how you cut it. The entire team minus Kam Jones is over performing their Box Bayesian Performance Rating. Iso vs Assits no matta. That's just aesthetics.

Finally watching the game this morning.  Bad night at work in a snowstorm.   Anyway....
1  The teal jerseys were explained in the first few minutes of the game.
2.  Coach Smart provides answers to many of your rhetorical questions in his post game pressers.
3.  The new guys got a lot of run.  It was choppy in spots.   The price that is paid to
get them better.
4.  The only way a freshman starts this year is due to injury.
5.  The cupcake was used as it should be.  A lot of guys got 15 minutes more experienced.   Nobody got hurt.   Yay.

Agreed  and you're exactly right, self/team discipline.   We don't talk about it nearly enough Scoop Snoop, but the fact remains that a bad shot often leads to transition opportunities on the other end.  Not to mention the fact thaf our scoring droughts are directly related to shot selection along with discipline and poise issues.

We do not have a player that can put his head down and stop the bleeding by scoring off the bounce.  Kam isn't there yet.  And because of that, as Shaka stated, we have to be cognizant of shot selection and execution to close games.

We must have a clear and concise idea where exactly we want to get a shot and score the last 8 mins of a game.  We didn't vs Purdue from my observations.  Hopefully Monday we will see improvement in this area.

This is a better explanation/take than the one I wrote with just a few words.
