That's even more of a bump than I expected.
I do question how we are ranked 19 spots ahead of Wisconsin. If that's the case, I hope that there's a lot of chalk in the air Saturday.

I think outlier performances will skew the data a bit early on due to small sample size.

Bracketology Joe Lunardi had Marquette in his Next Four Out the morning prior to the Marquette Baylor game.
Marquette’s Kenpom was # 33 Yesterday.

I hope the team is ignoring a potential #20 ranking and keeps remembering they were picked 9th in the Big East.

If a 19-12 (12-8) Big East record is only a 63% chance of making it, I gotta say I don't like our odds of getting in this year.

Moreso just pointing out that 19-12, 12-8 would be a lock to get in than anything else.

19-12, 12-8 would likely be the bubble this year. I'd put the over/under on Big East bids at 4.5 right now. Probably lean the under with a couple close NIT teams.

If that proves to be true the a ton would have to go right for MU to get in and I don't understand why that is an opinion that gets such fierce pushback.  Not saying it is impossible but having to go 12-8 or 13-7 to get in seems like a long shot.  Idk.

Very hard to doubt your opinion here, for obvious reasons.

There are only 3 teams on the schedule that have a better KenPom ranking than UW, so 6 games total versus UConn, Creighton, and X.

StJ, Nova, SH, Providence and ND are all currently in the top 75, so that’s 9 additional games against current top 75 teams.

Then there’s Butler&DePaul in the top 100 and the ugly outlier Gtown around 150ish, so 6 games there.

Let’s make an educated guess and say 5 wins in the 6 games versus the bottom tier, 4/5 wins versus the middle tier, and conservatively 1 win versus the top tier.
That’s right around that 10/11 win mark in conference.
IMO that middle tier of 9 games versus  current KenPom teams lower than Marquette currently in the top 75 (which includes ND) will likely decide MUs ncaa fate. Win 5/6 of those 9 and they should be sitting pretty.

It is a bit difficult to buy that a 12-8 conference season wouldn’t be enough in a year when Marquette is ranked in the top 40/45 going into conference play.

When do the first NET rankings come out? It’s typically early December no?

Because based on this season's data, Marquette has been the second-best team in the Big East and is very safely in the top-four. It's worth looking at this piece that I wrote about unbiased data this season. While things could change, and the Big East hasn't been good, that likely benefits Marquette because we have a schedule that is weak compared to how our team has performed. Using this season's data on T-Rank, we are favored to win every game but four. We are underdogs in both UConn games and on the road at Xavier (+0.7) and Creighton (+2.4) Obviously the projected record wouldn't match completely because of percentages, but that's a raw favorite record of 24-7 (16-4) come the Big East Tournament.

In this Big East, looking at how bad St. John's, Providence, Villanova, DePaul, and Georgetown have been, 12 or 13 wins feels like a pretty low bar to clear. I think a number of people are both underrating how good Marquette has been while overrating how good the rest of the league is.

This could be the perfect league for this young team to develop while still being able to win and get to the NCAA tournament.  A down year for the conference with an ascending young team seems like a great opportunity.  Hopefully that’s the case.

Let’s beat ND and go into conference play on a high note.

The Baylor game was quite the outlier. If we do that 1 out of every 9 games we play this season I will be absolutely floored. That’s boosting our current year numbers quite a bit.

MU would get a rematch w / Purdue in the 2d round.  I will take that and run any day of the week

Looks like they docked us one Big East game because of that 2nd half performance.
Seems excessive.
