Catholic priests fear being falsely accused
« on: October 19, 2022, 07:07:45 PM »
"The Numbers," from the WSJ:

82% -- The share of Catholic priests in the U.S. who fear being falsely accused of sex abuse.

According to a Catholic University of America study, only 51% think their bishops would support them if they were falsely accused, and only 36% think their diocese would provide them with sufficient resources to defend themselves in court.

The bishops conference’s Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations chairman said the study underscored “the importance of being always attentive to the care of our priests...while we strive to address any issues that have damaged the unique relationship we enjoy."

I assume the 18% are either very naive or actual abusers.
