Of all the stuff that is going on in the world, a controversial figure, who has been a target of Islamic extremist groups for 30 years, getting stabbed is what shook you pretty good?

I hope the best for him and that his injuries aren't life threatening, but I'm shook far more by many other random acts of violence that occur.

He's an amazing writer.   There's nothing controversial about him which would justify a stabbing.

You're joking right?  He literally had a fatwa raised against him and has been the focus of threats and comments publically made by both Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda for perceived insults and slights of Islam.

To add, there's an actual bounty on his head. $3.3 million.

Of course I know that there's been a fatwa on for 30 yrs or so.  That doesn't mean stabbing him is justifiable.

Well, at least no FBI offices were attacked this afternoon. That I know of.

Where did I say it was justifiable?  You tried to claim he wasn't controversial.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on an IRS office next. Apparently some are up in arms (pun intended) about this division of the government.

Grammar police time.

The way this is written, what you said was: there is nothing controversial about him and if there was something controversial about him it would justify him being stabbed.

What I think you meant to say was "There's nothing controversial enough about him to justify a stabbing"

You can't spell Rushdie without D-I-E.

But seriously ... I guess everybody can at least be grateful the perpetrator didn't have a gun or an already ugly scene would have gotten really, really ugly.

Up in arms about an oft-repeated lie, which has become standard procedure. And yet, some are perfectly fine about lying as an SOP.

Here is to a healthy recovery.  However, this reminds me how artists and authors are able score hot chicks like Salman Rushdie and Marvin Hamlisch were able to.

Should spend less time typing nonsense on Scoop and more time on composing my poetry.

Update:

MAYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — “The Satanic Verses” author Salman Rushdie was taken off a ventilator and able to talk Saturday, a day after he was stabbed as he prepared to give a lecture in upstate New York.

Rushdie remained hospitalized with serious injuries, but fellow author Aatish Taseer tweeted in the evening that he was “off the ventilator and talking (and joking).” Rushdie’s agent, Andrew Wylie, confirmed that information without offering further details.

Earlier in the day, the man accused of attacking him Friday at the Chautauqua Institution, a nonprofit education and retreat center, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and assault charges in what a prosecutor called a “preplanned” crime.
