Four year players vs the one/two year and done.
« on: July 09, 2022, 09:56:49 AM »
I wonder how this new world of college athletes will affect the NCAA tournament. It will be interesting to see if teams with NBA prospects who leave after one or two seasons or teams that have juniors and seniors who can play high level college basketball and perhaps make some good money overseas will have deep runs in the tournament and win championships.

If you are a coach do you recruit for the 1/2 year guy or the 3/4 year guy?

Both/and.   You need Drew Timme to build culture and sustain the program.   You need Chet Holmgren to try to put it over the top.

And yet Gonzaga lost in the sweet sixteen to a 4 seed.  Cue all the “crapshoot” posts….

Two coaches have been successful committing to one and dones.   Calipari.    What has he won lately?     K.   Who also didn't win every year and is now retired.

So, both/and.

Jay Wright won with three and four year talent.

Patrick Ewing cycles through a lineup every year, so no comment.

There are like 5-10 programs that get one and dones.

Not MU.

Let’s move on.

Just win with what you have.
