Big East Coaching Survey
« on: April 07, 2023, 11:30:14 AM »
In having a side convo on how I'd tier off current BE coaches, I thought it might be prudent to get a bigger sample and try to crowdsource responses, to then make some interactive graphics based on those answers.

If you have 90 seconds, I'd love to have your input: https://forms.gle/DCX4wxutQpst9yHF8

Here's a sneak peak:

And Shaheen Holloway. I'd rank him 11th.

Just a heads up, you can put gibberish in there if you want. It isn't confirmed or validated. Just a way to prevent spam responders.

You dont believe in a coach with 2 FFs, 3 E8s, 2 S16s and 5 Big Ten Regular Season titles (plus 2 A10 titles) cause he had a bad year at Butler?

He might not the right guy to steady the ship at Butler and make them good again at this point in his career, but choosing him over guys like Kim English, Holloway, or Stubblefield is clinically insane.

Anecdotal to be sure, but every single time I saw him on TV last season he looked exhausted. I hope his heart is in it, because Butler needs a great coach to make it back from the abyss.

Ed Cooley is the easy pick for most overrated.

Agree. He’s accomplished relatively little - though I give him credit for convincing many that Providence is a nearly impossible place to win.

I don't think any of them are very good right now. Stubblefield is probably the best of that group though. DePaul is a really tough job.

That Matta couldn't do better with what was at least a decent starting five, and immediately lost Taylor and Lukosius after the season, I think he's washed. He took the job because it's a local payday, but I don't think he's the guy he was at Ohio State, and the cracks that were the reason he was dismissed from OSU are already showing up.

Matta was clearly backsliding, then had health issues, then sat out for 6 seasons that were massively transformative in both how the game is played and how rosters are managed. I don't think it's crazy to look at his last couple years at OSU and this past season and think "yeah, Thad doesn't have it anymore."

Holloway?? You'd put the guy who made an elite 8 as a 15 seed ahead of Stubblefield?

Here's the writeup of the 1100+ responses we've gotten to date:

https://painttouches.com/2023/04/14/ranking-the-coaches-in-the-big-east-shaka-smart-rick-pitino-ed-cooley-dan-hurley/

Shaka scores out in Tier 1 based on the overwhelming MU response, but was very interested to see how non-MU fans perceived him. There's a link in the post for a Looker Studio dashboard where you can play around with all the questions as well as filter by fanbases. Be sure to check that out.

And they are in desperate need of professional help with their obvious psychological/mental problems.
