I try with every fiber of my being to judge others not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.

We stand in life at midnight; we are always on the threshold of a new dawn.

Dear politicians/political influencers:

When you evoke my father this #MLKDay, remember that he was resolute about eradicating racism, poverty, and militarism. And about corrective justice work.

Don’t just quote him.

Encourage and enact policies that reflect his teachings.

With my mother. Daddy’s funeral.

He wasn’t assassinated because he wanted his children to be judged “by the content of their character.”

But for dismantling racism, poverty & militarism.

He wanted corrective measures to eradicate racism, not the delusion that it doesn’t exist.

I try with every fiber of my being not to judge others period. We usually see only the tip of the iceberg.

"History is the long and tragic story of the fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and give up their unjust posture; but as Reinhold Niebuhr has reminded us, groups are more immoral than individuals."

Unfortunately, some now view a race that has been discriminated against for centuries as the most "privileged group."

The interesting thing about Dr. King is the diversity of his message.

For Caucasian folks, the message is inclusion and equality of opportunity. The concept of being impartial toward a person's race, background, gender or religion.

For African-Americans, Dr. King was much more radical. He espoused equity, or the concept that African-Americans "deserved better" economically. He blistered the Johnson Administration over the Vietnam War on grounds it was largely fought by African-Americans. At the time of his death, he was becoming much more threatening to established order because of his economic message. His activity on behalf of the Memphis garbage workers at the time of his assassination was one chapter in that effort.

While we've made much progress since the time of Dr. King's death, we're a long way from being complete. The gap in expectations affecting too many African Americans  is something we as a society need to really look inside ourselves and ask, "how do we do better." Hopefully, that's the message of Dr. King and the celebration of his birth.
