Is no longer traveling. The problems that plagued us early in the year (poor defense, not finishing games strong) are back lately. Massively choked this one away.

Not sure our defense is as bad as it seems. I'm genuinely curious between the last two games how many shots have been made in the last 3 sec of the clock. It just seems like theres been a player who's guarded pulling miracles out of their ass

This.  I was at the game - Creighton continually ran the clock down and then pulled a ridiculous shot out of the ass.  Yes, Marquette’s defense in the first half was not good, but I thought it was better in the second half.

Layup lines. Nobody knowing where their man is cutting. And when we force a miss we don’t rebound the ball.

What happened to the press? The full court trapping press got exposed by Butler and we haven’t played it since. I’m fine with that. The 3/4 court press was always the far more successful defense. We didn’t press Creighton at all and we aren’t pressing Butler, and we can’t stop either whatsoever. Need to see that 3/4 court defense come back.

Forcing turnovers is no longer happening and that’s the only way we get stops.

Wojo could’ve given us this level of defense.

3 points in nearly 10 minutes since throwing the 3/4 court press in. That needs to be played a lot.

Very good summary. I really thought that the 6 day layoff would give the team enough time to correct some of the problems in practice. I always love wins, even ugly ones, but the reboot on defense (and offense) during the layoff that I was hoping to see simply was not there.

It wasn't there the first 8 minutes.  23 points.   After that, 33 points in 32 minutes.  Held Butler to 56.   Even closed the rebounding gap.

Need to start out stronger, though.  These slow starts are frustrating.

Starting out stronger would be great.  We have some guys who if they don’t hit their first couple of shots get it in their heads s bit.  Others like Kam, just keeps shooting lol.  I think Justin and Tyler get down on themselves if they miss - too tough on themselves .   Shake it off and think, Next Play!   Go Marquette!

When Marquette does not do pressure defense in the backcourt, we are just like any other team on defense.  Butler was rattled when we started putting some pressure in the backcourt.
Not saying we do it 40 minutes, but it certainly gives MU an edge.
I wonder if our W-L ratio is related to the minutes per game we did backcourt pressure.

Fair, but considering that we were playing a 6-12 team, on our home court, needing to avenge an embarrassing loss convincingly, and on NMD- I was hoping for better defense and offense from the tip off onward. I hesitated to write this because I do not want to be seen as another wet blanket (we have way too many in scoop). The best part is we won, and later in the game looked pretty damn good. Let's take down DePaul and clinch the BET 5 seed!

Pressing cost us big time earlier in the year...but I would agree with you in this game.  We got back in the game with a few turnovers on our press and Oso and Kur on the bench...

OK. Anonymous Eagle's account of the game is especially good and credits the defensive effort that eventually emerged.

Defense has been fine outside of the creighton game. You can’t really control much as a defense outside your opponents 2pt FG %. You can cut out 3PA, but you can’t really force a team to shoot poorly from 3 on a game to game basis.

I not sure that it was not due more to poor offense than great defense.
