Furthermore, IMO this isn't just because he is a former coach that he getting this honor.  I doubt Buzz ever steps foot again on campus.

Really weird that people will continue to bash TC, who has been nothing but complimentary to MU since he left, but will fawn over Buzz who crapped all over the University on his way out the door.

And didn't flush
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Crean sucks
Except that Shaka says he is very excited and loves that Crean will be at the game on Sat. #donedeal #CreanAC
Goal is National Championship

First of all, learn how to spell.  It’s Dwyane.  Put some f’n respect on his name.

Second of all, we quadrupled the spend and relaxed the requirements.  Of course Tom did well.  Any young coach coming in with no admission barriers and a huge budget would do it too.

The state was full of studs; Travis, Steve, Merritt and then in Chicago there’s a partial qualifier.  The road was paved with Gold.  All Tom had to do was drive his ATV over it and not tip over.

You sound angry.

That’s the first time I’ve ever misspelled Dewyanes name, I was 4th grade spelling bee champion.

For real though I usually skip right over all the angry former head coach threads because I typically don’t care enough either way…

That said, can someone please tell me what it was about coach Tom that was so bad?

As an aside- the stuff about any coach would have done well is bullocks. That just seems like something you’ve made yourself believe to justify His success.
Sure I’ll buy that he was set up nicely to succeed, but I definitely won’t buy that almost anyone would have

I’ve got a Crean question: in the last 20 years, other than Cal and Coach K has anyone had more recruits who ended up being top 5 picks than Crean?

D Wade
V Olindipo
C Zeller
A Edwards

Maybe Self or Ole Roy???

Goes to show how, yes, he can recruit/build a program but he can’t get over the hump cuz he’s not a good coach
Bring back FFP!!!

Both deserve it. Still hate the way Crean left (not that he left for IU) but a FF is a big deal and he deserves the honor. Dominic was great, I think he is an all time great.

What is the proper way to leave for another team?

Is the answer is it does not exist and what Crean did was about as good as it gets?

You may need some more salt with your next post.

Ok, salt guy. All I’m saying is he’s had talent and other than Wade he hasn’t done anything with it.

Again, the guy can recruit and build a program but he hits a brick wall every stop he goes to…cuz he can’t coach

I wish he didn’t sh!t himself against Cuse zone in 2013 cuz justice would've be served

He literally lied to Fr. Wild.

Meh.  Fr. Wild was used to it at that point.  He learned after 03 & 04 that Tommy would go (at best) radio silent & AWOL during coaching caraseoul (sp) SZN.

Be a man and keep your boss in the loop.

Not Tom’s best attribute.

What is the proper way to leave for another team?

Is the answer is it does not exist and what Crean did was about as good as it gets?

Accept new offer the night before without new school notifying old school about interview request. Have your father in law, who works for your boss, remain quiet. On next day, tell your boss and his boss “all is good” as they board a plane across the country. One hour later, have your brother in law announce on national media you are taking the new job. When your boss and his boss land, have their phones light up with missed calls and voicemails about you quitting per national media. Boss hastily refuels plane for return flight. Have school shuttle players to my house so I can tell them briefly I am leaving even though they heard two hours ago on radio and social media. Get on flight to new gig without talking to old bosses. Give exact same speech at new gig as I gave at old gig. Bring along recruits from old gig.

Perfect etiquette.

MU is doing the right thing by honoring our past. That doesn’t mean we have excuse all of Tom’s failings.

Tournament is a crap shoot. Winning the big10 is a much better representation of the coaching job.

You’re just salty.

I’m not salty. I asked a question hoping for an answer and you came back all Chico’s defending Crean and his inability to coach a non D Wade team

Again, he is a good recruiter and a program builder. I give him credit for that

You said he’s not a good coach because he can’t get to final fours. By that logic, lots of coaches underperform.

I don’t understand all the crean vitriol so many years later. Wojo was much more detrimental to the overall status of our program. crean’s first year in the Big East was anything but coaching failure.

Yet we are okay with tearing down statues of Grant and Lincoln. It’s history, and these guys are flawed as well, and deserving of discussion of their history-pro and con. Only one person here (4Ever) says he isn’t deserving overall.

I responded to Heise who was glossing over his exit. It was likely the most ham handed exit one can come up with.
