I actually think NateDogg's insistence that the Selection Committee would hold the results of our scrimmage vs. Kansas St. against us were bordering on genius (unless he was serious).

Chicos,

We'll get by the Jonnies at that is it.  If we beat Pitt Friday...and I hope by some miracle we do, I  promise i will come back to the board with a mea culpa.  Where do you think things come out given our one dimensional offense? You expect to clean the slate and then lose in the first round as is our custom?

Wow, I didn't realize it would take a miracle to beat Pitt. :o The same Pitt team that less than 3 weeks ago lost on their home court to 15th place Rutgers by 13 points. Yeah, that same Rutgers team that Louisville only beat by 40 on their home court a week later. Remember this is the same Pitt team that Marquette has proven to be better than the last few years. The same Pitt team that has  key players out with injury or in Levance Fields case just coming back after a long layoff from injury. Man, Coach Crean better have his best Knute Rockne speech ready to go. Otherwise we have no chance.

You can definitely wait until after the Pitt game but I still feel that we just matchup very badly against UConn and Louisville.  I know we could have performed a lot better in those 3 games but if you just forget about those 3 games and look at other 20 games, you would feel better about this team heading into this PItt game.

this is just good natured discourse, not me trying to pick a fight or be an ass  ;D...

there's only a handful of preseason games i feel good about.  but i don't understand why it's ok to "forget" about the teams we don't match up well against, but it's perfectly ok for us to look at (count) the games where our opponent was greatly outmatched (those 5-6 'buy' games).

i think the 2 louisville games and the uconn game (along with the ND games (both), WV, Duke, and Wisc games... hell, all the BE games) are the ones to look at rather than the buy games like Savannah St or Coppin St when it comes to team performance and character.

I was thinking more along the lines of Duke, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and a good IUPUI team to go along with us handling Providence, DePaul, Cincy and one game each of ND and Seton Hall very easily but even with the buy games you can look at the fact that we took care of business, i.e. no slip ups and some big time beat downs that frankly has not happened in years past.

My opinion is that we just don't match up well to tall athletic teams that neutralize our guards and can swat balls away when we try to drive to the hoop when our shots don't fall from the perimeter.  I might be too optimistic but I can't possibly see myself enjoying and following this team if I truly believe they stink.  You have to believe a little. No?

And your not being an a**.

I think we end up 10-8 or 11-7.  I do not think it requires a miracle to beat Pitt.  I actually think beating Rutgers is our most likely win followed by St. John's and then Pitt.  The other three games will be very tough with two on the road and the other against Georgetown.

I just don't know how you come to say we're going to only win one more Big East game when our 5 losses are against 4 ranked teams (3 of them on the road) and the fifth was on the road against a team formerly ranked.

It's not like we're losing to Penn State, Iowa, Northwestern or Illinois.
