Boys Amongst Men
« on: November 21, 2021, 08:12:19 PM »
Played a team that was much older and more experienced and it showed. They were not phased by any defense we threw at them. Once we couldn’t get them rattled, we started hoisting up bad shots and playing individual basketball while they shredded us with team basketball. Didn’t have the fight we did the last 3 games. Bonnie’s are good. But we didn’t bring it tonight.

Overall a very good week.

Agreed. No shame in this one. They are a tough team and we still have a long way to go.

This is what I expected to happen against Illinois.  Still a very good week.

All you can hope is the team learns from it and gets back to doing what they did against Illinois, Ole Miss, and West Virginia.

Should have taken it to the hoop in the 1st half when it was apparent we could not hit an outside shot.
All and all, who would have expected us to be 5-1 at this stage and playing in the finals of the Shriners.
Next up, Northern Illinois.  Make incremental improvements.

Probably win if MU82 hadn't bumped the "where are we ranked" thread.

The film session should be fun. My favorite was when the four guys we had lined up didn't move and the St. B free throw shooter got the rebound.

If I were Shaka, it would have been difficult for me to resist doing a hockey line change there.

True, Rocky. He looked like one of the soccer players I saw in the five minutes of that we were subjected to before the game. Screw pro wrestling, soccer is the most phony show going. They look as if they'll need a neck brace, a board, an ambulance and an ICU and they're back in 90 seconds good as new.

Dude. Hilarious.

In other news, the loss was expected eventually.
The bit of shame in the loss is how poorly we shot. Woof.

And their few wide open dunks past our D.

But if you woulda told me “MU is gonna go 3-1 this week” psssssh woulda taken it no matter how you cut it. The fact that it was against the highest rated teams we could have faced was awesome.

my thoughts exactly watching that crap. A 3-1 game in extra minutes and fish flopping around out there. Too funny

I would be interesting if they could do a film session with the audio from the radio broadcast overlayed.Tony Smith does a good job breaking down the plays in a simple easy to understand fashion .

Don't you think Shaka and his assistants can do the job as well as or better than Tony?

Tony's a HOFer.  Is Shaka or any of our assistants in the HOF?

Needed to drive and kick to the three point shooters more and not force shots on the drive when double/triple-teamed.

No way to sugar coat it, we did not play well and were exposed by a very good, experienced team, who had a counter for everything we did.

Still an excellent week.  We knew there'd be days like this.  We'll be better just for having gone through this.

They are a young team that has only played a handful of games together. While I know that there was a lot of unbridled optimism in the air, it was pretty much inevitable that they'd lay an egg eventually (and probably will again). That's what young teams do. Sometimes a lot. The fact that it came against a pretty impressive and experienced team actually softens the blow a bit. Hopefully, they can continue to avoid "bad losses" and chalk up some more good wins.

As so many of us have said after watching the the team regress during the last three season: I just want to see the team improve as the season progresses.

They can for sure. I just like how Tony explains the plays.
