Marquette/Bonnies Flashback
« on: November 19, 2021, 09:54:38 PM »
The last time MU took on St. Bonaventure was in the First Bank Classic Championship in December 1997. MU won 68-61, led by Hutch with 23, Wardle (frosh year) with 15, and Lovette with 9 and 11 boards.

MU is 4-3 lifetime against the Bonnies, having won the last 4 matchups. Included is a 1995 NIT game that MU won at the Bradley Center (one of my favorite MU team rosters in my lifetime).

Followed that NIT win with one of the great underrated MU games, South Florida at the MECCA. Unbelievable atmosphere for that game.

That NIT game vs/ the Bonnies is underrated as well.  MU sold tickets around the court as you bought them.  One price, I belive.  So while there were only 4-5,000 there, we surrounded the court and it felt cooler than it was.

But as MU12 said, nothing topped that MECCA game.  When Hutch was born.

As a freshman, the fact my floor got tickets in the lower bowl behind the MU bench after we’d all been stuck upstairs all season was awesome! Such a great atmosphere, though I think there were more than 5K there.

Hutch was born against Auburn, he went for 20. We gathered in my room in McCormick to listen on the radio, no TV for the game back then.  https://apnews.com/article/0e87a54807e9458ea2c1a725adc8f201

The MECCA game was incredible, one of my best memories at MU (I actually went to Cudahy later that night to finish a ENG 002 paper). The whole run was I had decided to transfer a few weeks prior. The fun of that NIT run changed my mind.
