Go with the freshman at point guard? Is it better to go with veteran options like Morsell, Elliott or Kolek?

Only if he beats out the other two freshmen PGs

I think it will be Mitchell or Emarion Ellis.
Morsell/Elliott/Kolek all have played 2/3 for their entire careers. Not saying one of them can't play PG but I'd be surprised.

Morsell and Kolek have both played the point before. Elliott will not play the point. I think Mitchell is the more ready now player but Ellis has the higher ceiling.

They’ve played point in college?

the jump from hs point guard to big east et.al. point is pretty demanding and could make or break a freshman.  i'd rather see mitch finessed into the position.

I don't know when he'll start, but Ellis will be the stud of the freshman class.

How can anyone make a case for any of these guys until they see them play college ball?  Or at least see them in practice?

His defense will earn minutes until his offensive game catches up.

Another luxury of having Morsell on the team: these freshman guards having to go up against the Big Ten defensive player of the year every day at practice. Might make game days seem a little easier.

I am excited as heck to see year 2-3 EE. He is going to be something special, especially when he develops a more consistent jumper.

I agree that he by far has the most talent but I'm wondering if he will need some time to reach it. I can see Mitchell being the stud freshman this season with Ellis passing him in the future. Kind of like Dawson and what we hope Justin Lewis ends up doing this year.

Dominic James and Jerel McNeal would be a good example of this.

Start him after he gets out of the walking boot he’s currently in?

I agree but it sounds like Ellis came in not ready for the toughness demanded by Shaka and has a long way to go.  I have heard he wasn't able to finish a few practices early on due to conditioning and mental toughness.  Sounds like Shaka is working on his overall toughness

Surprising to me since he was a star football player in HS

Ben Steele tweeting an interview at Big East media day.   Coach Smart says that Stevie has been the best freshman defensively.
