Just read online that UNC is "aiming" to move to the SEC, and this is reportedly coming from a source inside the program.

I skimmed through a couple articles on the subject and I got the impression this was more of a passive remark rather than an indicator of something they're actively working on. That said, UNC's exit fees do drop to $75mil in 2030.

So hypothetically, if UNC leaves the ACC in the next five years, what would happen next?

Another round of realignment will happen where Clemson and Florida State leave as well imho. Possibly Duke as well. The biggest 4 brands of ACC go elsewhere and ACC is left in shambles.

This is why I don't get the UConn fans that want ACC. It's just a matter of time before that conference becomes a mid major.

The cheating scandal is ancient history. I'm not excusing it or justifying it - I lived there when it was happening, and it was disgusting. But the fact is that it's long over, and UNC is one of the most highly rated public universities in the country. It also has excelled in athletics, not only the major sports but in many others it offers.

On a podcast with Jon Rothstein, Pitino said that the Big East teaming up with the ACC would be "an awesome thing" for college basketball, combining the traditional powers of Duke, North Carolina, and Louisville with the Big East brands of UConn, Villanova, St. John's, etc. Last season, Pitino brought St. John's back to prominence in year two, leading the Red Storm to a 31-5 record, including an 18-2 mark in conference play, and the Big East championship.

"In order for the Big East and the ACC to survive this football mania — because a bad college football game will surpass an NBA playoff game as far as viewership is concerned," Pitino said. "So, if we want to survive basketball-wise with the ACC and the Big East and to preserve the Dukes, the Carolinas, the Louisvilles of the world, and the Big East, combining it into a mega conference would be an awesome thing."

The last time Dayton fans were telling us bad things were coming for our conference and we'd be begging them to join their conference, things didn't go too well for them.

Brackets Revealed for 2025 Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational - Georgetown Hoyas Men's Basketball - August 12, 2025

WASHINGTON – The brackets for the 2025 Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational were revealed today as announced by ESPN. The three separate multi-team tournaments, each crowning its own champion, will be held at Walt Disney World Resort during Thanksgiving week with the Hoyas competing in the week's signature event, the Magic Bracket. The tournaments will take place Nov. 24-28 at State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla. All games will be televised live on an ESPN platform.

The Flyers will be playing at least two Big East teams this season.
