Be nice to play the Huggie Bear again!!!!

Agreed.  Who would have said that back in the late 90s early 2000s? We hated that guy.

If I were to guess at the matchups, I'd say...

West Virginia vs Elon
Marquette vs Ole Miss

St. Bonaventure vs Temple
Clemson vs Boise State

I think the organizers will build for a WVU/Bonnies final. If that doesn't work out, this seems like the best shot of getting power teams through to the final if one of the favorites stumbles. And I know T-Rank has Clemson ahead of WVU, but I think they'll still trust Huggy ahead of anyone else in the field.

Ultimately, I could see the Marquette/Ole Miss/Clemson spots being a bit of a round-robin. One of them will likely play Boise, the other two will likely match with each other.

I think WVU and MU will be on opposite sides. That’s the best TV draw.

Who besides West Virginia fans and MU fans are going to watch it?

Agreed. Public has no idea that Bonnies are a good team.....and TV doesn’t feel it is their position to inform them.

Maybe not, but the Bonnies could have a number next to their name. That alone would make them a draw, especially against a power conference team.

A draw to whom?
#21 St Bonaventure vs. Clemson....only diehards give a sh$t about that.
I would watch......but I don’t know if that draw is what the network carrying this tournament championship game on their airwaves wants in a preseason tournament.

What is with all the St. Bonaventure Love. It is not like the second coming of Bob Lanier is playing for them.

Who did they beat that was worth anything last year?

MU will do well in this tournament.

It's Feast Week. People tune into ranked teams. It's one of the best times to get a look at teams that are good but the common fan is unfamiliar with and won't likely get much of a look at until March.

There will be better events. And worse.

As a Marquette fan, I can’t wait to go, and I hope to see lots of y’all there in blue and gold.

So at least one of the other basketball gals in my group and I are seriously looking at going - looking at hotels and Airbnb’s now - anyone made arrangements yet? Will there be gatherings like at the Big East tourney? I’ve signed up for ticket info from the tourney website.
Holiday tournaments are new to me. At the Big East we pretty much just bought off stubhub. Is a similar plan good for  a tourney like this?

I’d like to hear answers to your questions, so hopefully the holiday-tourney-experienced Scoopers will chime in.

We’re going and already have reserved our Airbnb. Staying about 6-7 blocks from arena and near where lots of restaurants and bars are.

There are usually gatherings. One main event with some pre game ones as well. Post game at team hotel bar.

MU82, might I ask the general area of your Airbnb? I’ve been to Charleston once but my recollections are a bit hazy.

I had a rental credit from Covid, booked a 15 minute walk from the arena. One block off the north end of King Street.

Never been to Charleston, looking forward to it.

Just google-mapped it to remind myself where we are. We're fairly near the MUSC medical facility, about a 20-minute walk from the arena.

Here are the “official” tournament hotels, with two being in Mt. Pleasant (not convenient IMO). Not sure where MU will be based yet. King Street is where a lot of the hotels, bars, restaurants and arena are so anything on or off of there…but all very walkable or a quick ride share to the historic district.

Yeh I saw the list, we are thinking of booking something cancellable right now just to have it. I may have stayed in the Homewood a couple nights the one time I was there before ( we were on a bike trip that started in Charleston but went out two days earlier) and it was well- located. I agree about Mt. Pleasant, would need a car there. A former co-worker actually lives there.

The Courtyard on the official list is not really a pleasant walk to the arena. Hopefully, the team stays closer. You have to cross a very busy street that is almost a highway at some point. The most direct route has you walking along that highway for a good chunk of the way. The easier cross puts you a few minutes further walk. But it is a nice place, as is the full service Marriott. That was the team hotel for the Carrier Classic. But not really walkable.
The Embassy suites is the old Citadel. Interesting, historical place. As a Marriott guy, I do like the Courtyard Downtown near the arena.
