Do we look like the desperate person that got spurned years ago and now is ready to take them again with open arms because we're still enamored with them?

Or does Shaka look like he's coming to us saying "should've gone with you way back when"?

Just feels like the national perception is  one or the other given Donedeal part 1.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

This hire will be well thought of nationally. MU married up today the BE should be put on notice.

The average fan  has no idea that Shaka spurned us.

Love the enthusiasm you are putting out, it's infectious. Great to see you this way after the last couple seasons.

JakeBarnes

It's being received well in Big East circles, for sure. We just made a hire that didn't seem possible a week or so ago.

Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Listening to Sirius XM, National Perception is very high for Marquette and not a good look for Texas.

Crash,

Nice to MU to join that club.

I want to hear if they went after Moser or not and would feel much better if they did and it didnt work out

This.  Honestly, I doubt many die-hard college hoops fans have any clue about that.

I have gotten at least a dozen texts today, and every single one of them is thrilled with this hire.

This. It's not just 'not a big deal,' to the average fan, it's no deal at all.

And they see Texas was a top 15 team most of the year who won the B12 tourney.

MU got a coach that just got a 3 seed at Texas, not Kansas St at the bottom of the B12.  Most people dont know or care about the backroom chatter.  This looks big time.

Why?  That would make Marquette look bad, whereas this looks very strong nationally.

Goose,

This is a rock solid move. I couldn't be more proud of MU. This is a signature hire.

Texas fans are thrilled Shaka's gone.  They didn't like him any more than MU fans liked Wojo.

Will be interesting to see who they get to replace him.

I have as well. Have heard from LA to NYC and everyone thinks a home run hire.

Seems like Texas is spinning that Shaka was on his way out and jumped on the first life boat that could keep him afloat?

See: https://austonia.com/shaka-smart-leaves-ut

"Smart switched to Marquette before the university took action. He had about $7.1 million in guaranteed income left on his remaining two-year contract."

It's big. We swiped a title winning coach from a Power 5 school.

Many UW friends/fans texting me saying they hoped Shaka would end up at UW someday...these are guys that know basketball as well or better than the average fan.  HS basketball coaches, former college players, etc...  I couldn't be more pleased with MU.

+1000000.

Now let's get some fresh jerseys to start the Shaka era off right.

The most level headed spin is that this is a good move for all parties.

Texas is a stepping stone job. First Barnes, now Shaka.

shoothoops

It isn't the best day for the don't hire someone running from something crowd. It's also an interesting day for the hire some people running from something, but not others, crowd.

Getting results is what matters. If Shaka can get results at Marquette, great, I am all for it. If he can't, MUBB will move on to the next coach. He will get a fair opportunity to succeed.

Agree 1000%

I don't give a rat's ass what National Perception is, I care what College age basketball players think and want.....if he bring's back the "Havoc" style I think it is a BIG-time hire and great marriage

Go Marquette!!!
