Terrific win for the players and coaches.  In a season full of emotions, this is one to definitely celebrate.  I'm sure this was very satisfying for Wojo, not just getting a win, or getting a win over a top program, but beating hated rival UNC.  I'm sure he will be getting a lot of congratulatory texts and calls.

It's easy to complain about the past and worry about the future.  Tonight is a great night for MUBB. I'll just leave it right there.

how did we fare on the boards against a team touted as formidable rebounders?
To my eyes we held our own

They were out rebounded by 1 overall but UNC got 13 offensive boards.  The Tar Heels historically dominate the offensive glass.  It probably went as well as it could have in that regard

Selfishly, it was also satisfying beating RJ Davis.

wojo will be here next.season. im a no jo but might as well enjoy the good times. nice win. hope we keep every non senior and get a solid transfer and have potential to be good

MU82

1. Garcia was the best player on the court tonight. Their bigs couldn't stay in front of him, his offensive game had nice variety, and he battled for 11 boards.

2. DJ was one of the two best players on the court in the first half, Garcia being the other. He clearly ran out of steam in the second half, and I'm glad it didn't cost us, but it was a joy to watch him go wherever he wanted to with the ball in the first half.

3. Loved Greg's energy and, obviously, his 3s. He was active on D, too. He can be an important player for us next season ... and for whatever is left of this season.

4. Enjoy the win, folks. Obviously not a great UNC team, but still athletic, tall and healthy. And still good enough to have defeated Louisville by 45 points a few days ago. If you can't enjoy a 13-point win in the Dean Dome, why even bother being a Marquette fan?

5. That goes for even the biggest NoJos. This didn't save The Evil One's job. If Lovell & Co. were gonna fire or not fire Wojo, IMHO, they already would have made the decision. Enjoy the win, and hopefully a few more to come this season. Why? Because competitors play to win, and fans should enjoy it when their favorite team wins.

6. Those thinking that we're gonna suck next season even if Garcia, Lewis and DJ all come back really don't know much about college basketball. The two freshmen will be better, and so will DJ. They will be one of the best trios in the Big East, and hopefully Wojo (if back) will surround them with good role players.

7. Koby had a rough second half but he made a lot of nice passes in the first half, really helped us build our lead. Just saw he finished with 6 assists, and I thought it might even have been more.

8. The guys definitely got tight when UNC cut the lead under 10, but I really like the way they got it back together.

9. Our press break really, really stinks, and that's a bad look on the head coach. That could be an entire thread on its own, so I'll just leave at that here.

10. Everybody who played contributed. Even Torrence and Perez stepped up with 3s. Torrence's, in the second half, was really big.

11. It's gonna be a beautiful, sunny, mid-60s day here in Charlotte tomorrow, and I'm going golfing. I will be fully decked out in my Marquette shirt and hat, wearing the blue and gold very proudly indeed!

When we're 8-10 in conference again 3 years from now with a 2 seed in the NIT - I hope we all still think this win was worth it. UNC is awful and may not have made the tourney regardless of this game.
You're "friends" all think you are an arsehole too.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Well done boys. Sure UNC isn't very good this year, but neither is MU. Great memory for the team.

We win the next three, we're back on the bubble folks. That would be 4 Q1 wins, 14-12 (9-10) gets us in the discussion and add a couple BE tourney wins. Hell Seton Hall has more bad losses than us all of the sudden.

If we did get to that point Wojo and Scholl better be screaming at Val and Georgetown to reschedule that game for a shot at a bid.

Wonder if this performance helps Garcia win freshman of the year. I know it's supposed to just be for BE games only, but he was great tonight.

Great team effort. It would have been easy to mail this one in but Wojo had the guys ready and they executed pretty much from start to finish. Only quibble - we have to stop inbounding the ball into the corner against the trap/press. I was tearing out what little hair I have left.

But we hung in, and beating Ol' Roy and North Carolina at the Dean Dome is a great accomplishment. Way to go, Warriors!

With SJU sputtering and Posh hurting his thumb Garcia could be back in the driver's seat

Awesome Marquette win on the Road over UNC who had a 33 NET ranking going into the game.

8. Vlad Guerri Jr losing 42 lbs!  Line of the night!
The continual scroll between that and the Tiger updates had me game distracted.

Bam.

We won, Roy lost.

Happy for the team and good for the BEast.

Roy, K, Cal? Ain't such great coaches when they don't have superstars or even a lottery pick. They win when they recruit (which is most of the time).

X's and O's? Plenty of college coaches are on par with them.

warriorjoe

Forty-four years between wins against the Tar Heels is a long time.
But I'm glad that Wojo did it in the Dean Dome.

Garcia is a gamer, D.J. Carton is getting more confident and Theo is a Warrior. Theo knows he has no backup, and yet he leaves everything on the floor.

While it was a turnover fest (MU 18; UNC 19), MU was able to finish a second straight game. A sign of progress.

Still need to clean up the turnovers and the in-bound plays.

Go Warriors!

Old Roy looks very old.

RJ Davis looks pretty pedestrian.

That shocked me. I knew he looked fat last year but just assumed he was wearing body armor like most basketball and baseball players do these days.

Doubling down on it when you were proven wrong. I'd expect nothing less.

Davis did not show much, glad he went to NC, Carton probably would have not come to MU if he did.

I'm stunned with how this one went. The first half was a thing of brilliance. We pounded the defensive glass and did a great job using the length of guys like Dawson and Jamal to mitigate their offensive rebounding. DJ and Greg could get to the rim at will. And we were shooting well. Didn't turn it over too much in the first half either that I saw.

Second half...well, adjustments usually aren't our strong suit. Not sure why UNC didn't just keep pressing us until the end of the game because it was killing us. Dawson seemed huge every time I looked and seemed to settle us when we needed it. Disappointed by Koby. He was our MVP for about the first third of the season but has been really poor since. At least DJ constantly has the ball in his hands as an excuse for the turnovers, Koby less so.

Great performance. Team was ready and showed up. If they can do that again on Saturday, they can creep back into the bubble conversation, which looked impossible a week ago. Gotta win out and make some noise in the Big East Tournament, but for those that believe in Miracles, there is a path...
