So...setting aside the "Is he fat or is it body armor" argument, why exactly does Jose wear all that padding? Do any other players do this?

I mean, I know what function padding is supposed to perform, but why would be need that in a BB game where speed and agility are so valuable? I mean, there aren't any 350 defensive linemen trying to drive him into the ground, unless you count Theo I suppose.

Jose's seems to be bigger than most that I've seen, but I'd be surprised if 90%+ college and professional basketball players don't wear some kind of padding on their ribs and/or thighs.  It seems very common.

Really? I never heard of this. I bet 90% don't wear any kind of padding.

Yeah - I know tons of players wear compression shirts, sleeves and tights, but I'd be surprised if many wear padding.

Many college basketball players where compression shirts with padding built in.

As Brew pointed out, the timeline doesn't remotely make sense for Nate Johnson.

I've never actually heard that Jose was a package deal with someone else. I have heard people speculate that Jose was recruited to help land Etienne. But the thought process I've heard from those people has been "Jose isn't playing, he must suck, why did we recruit him?, maybe it was to help land Etienne?" I think that may have gone around the rumor mill enough times for people to start presenting it as a fact or maybe there's truth to it. I'm sure the coaching staff was aware of the connection to Etienne when they were recruiting him.

You may have been thinking of Dex, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you were wrong about Jose. We know about Dex because his bout with COVID happened during practice time leading to a very public COVID break, combined with videos of everyone but Dexter practicing. It would not be surprising to learn that one or more of our players had COVID over the summer before practice and if that did happen, it likely wouldn't be publicly announced. If Jose had COVID and then decided after the APB game that he wasn't comfortable playing this season due to COVID, it would probably look like what we are seeing now. Jose not dressing but still a very involved active presence on the bench.

The way I see it, Jose not playing isn't a "he sucks" thing because even the walk ons dress. He's either injured, in the doghouse, or has decided to opt out due to COVID or another personal reason. If he was injured, we would have heard about it. It's possible he's in the doghouse, but he certainly isn't acting like a guy in the doghouse. I think option 3 is most likely.

Is he not even dressing?  Seems to me he's been on the bench in warm ups.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

This is a tremendous thread reiterating that Wojo isn't nearly the most toxic aspect of the MU program.

I don’t normally go with the eye test over “stats” but those numbers (as they often are in the program) are fake news. If you ever saw him play or just sit in his uniform) you’d say the same.

I agree, Lenny and said the same thing earlier. On the other hand, his time today made it look like he knows more about the team concept and floor spacing than most of the guys.

He must be a good 3 point shooter as they were running screens for him. They seldom do that for Koby or Jamal.

DJ repeatedly has taken over down the stretch of close games, and he has does a pretty darn good job of it. But no, he's not perfect. And no, he gets little support, including from the coach.

Koby hit the game-winner over St. John's just a couple weeks ago. He also is at least willing to take the big shot.

Wojo said in his post game that Perez had decided to sit this year and work on his conditioning.     At practice last week, with all of the injuries, (Theo, Lewis, Oso) Jose got run with different players and performed well.    Perez said he would do whatever he could to help the team.
