I haven't watched much CBB this year outside of MU, but based on historical precedent and the two big wins, I'd have to imagine that .500 in the BE gives Marquette a pretty good chance to get in.  At 4-5, obviously there is still a chance to get to .500 or better in the BE.  Whether or not they can do it...yeah, who knows.

Not with a NET in the high 70s.  I think we need to go 7-2 down the stretch at this point.

Save is correct, it's about who you beat.  If we get to .500 with wins over Creighton and Villanova there's a chance.  We're not getting in if our remaining wins are the bottom feeders plus a win vs X or The Hall.  We are not a good basketball team right now and a loss tonight will for all intents and purposes slam the door unless we win the BEast tourney.  Absolutely must win this evening for a scintilla of hope.

In general, I think its better to play at Nova. It's a low risk, high reward game when it comes to tournament resume. Lose, even in blowout fashion, and the committee won't punish you (though a blowout could hurt your computer numbers). Win and you could get bumped up multiple seed lines depending on how close together teams are. Plus, a single digit loss likely helps your computer number (or at least keeps them from lowering).

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

We'd get in with 6-3. Don't expect that to happen though.

So you're saying they leave out a 10-8 Big East team that played Marquette's schedule?  Don't see it.  But I admit I haven't really dug into NET at all this year so not sure what impact a (say) 5-4 finish (9-9 in BE assuming Nova and Gtown are not made up) would have on NET.

This whole thread reminds me of the Jim Mora "playoff" rant back in the day.  Playoffs? don't talk about playoffs.....

I think you're underestimating how bad the Big East is this year, and I also think the Creighton win won't look all that impressive by season's end.

Marquette's resume is weird. 10-8 in the Big East with as tough of a schedule as they played is absolutely bid worthy...and the quadrants would agree...but they keep losing by 7-11 points at home which tanks their computer numbers (not to mention the 17 point home beatdown by Nova). MU's fate at 10-8 would largely depend on what the committee chooses to emphasize this year. If its NET, MU would be out. If its the quadrants, MU would be in. Teams in the 60s and 70s have made the NET before, I don't know if COVID would make the committee rely more or less an NET.

I may be.  But 68 teams make the tournament.  That's a lot, and most conferences aren't very good other than the B10 and B12.
