Hey, this team has short comings.  But it does not deter myself from rooting for my favorite team.  Go Marquette!

What I find amazing is the stress level generated from 18-22 year olds throwing a ball in a basket.  ;D

So when you’re called out for being a Pollyanna in the face of ample evidence to the alternative, you passive aggressively poke fun at those who are upset by it and don’t share your blissfully ignorance?  Got it

Hey, this team has short comings.  But it does not deter myself from rooting for my favorite team.  Go Marquette!

Cool? Nobody here is not rooting for their favorite team.  But maybe stop making endless new topics which serve to exalt yourself as a fan cause you only see nebulous positives or whatever it is you’re rambling about after the team has crashed and burned for yet another season

This program has trended towards non-relevance ever since Buzz left.  Its like the Mike Deane years but at least back then it was still fun to watch to see when Deane would flip out and call his first time out of the game.

At 4-5, all we are in the hunt for now is mediocrity.

I guess weed is legal in North Carolina.

Or else senility has set in!

That's the only way one can be optimistic about this team.

the difference being under Deane our recruiting class elicited a response of "who" whereas now we're getting McDonald's AA's and highly rated recruits.

Are you saying MU didn't always get high level recruits?  How can that be?

I guess it depends on your definition of high level.  Deane's last class was made up of a player ranked 20th...in the state of Indiana.

not really. We're beating out Power 5 programs now whereas under Deane we were getting guys who were unknowns. Garcia was 37th nationally and a McD AA. Hester's best was honorable mention in the city of Indianapolis.

Poor recruiting led to Deane getting fired.  MU has always had the ability to attract high level recruits.  When it DIDN’T happen that coach was fired.  We are in the polar opposite position as a program now and ultimately this coach will be fired for it barring a miracle tournament run or brain dead BOT members within the next two years.

Again, I am confused.  So Deane did not want high recruits, so he got fired?

I may be missing something because I did not read the whole thread.  Deane was fired for not bringing in good enough recruits.  I would assume he wanted them but wasn’t able to get them because he was not a good recruiter.

Hope that clears up your confusion?

LeDarryl Billingsley was a killer for Deane. He'd committed then flipped to Tulane.

Deane didn't want to recruit Milwaukee kids (didn't want family and friends around), and after getting burned by Alton Mason having to leave at mid-terms because he couldn't cut it academically he became more concerned about academics. We had great kids in Bart Miller, John Mueller, and David Diggs but they weren't good enough to keep MU near the top of CUSA. Performance dropped once KO's last class was gone which led to the decision to dismiss him.

Wow, summing up MU BB, good coaches left for better jobs and bad ones were fired.
But we keep trying.

Sigh.  In the last three decades, we’ve had ONE coach who was a bad recruiter.  It was an anomaly, and a bad hire.  That coach was dispatched of quickly.

You’re being purposely obtuse.

You folks are ready to move on from Wojo.
Personally, I think we were pretty lucky with Crean and Buzz.  They definitely had shortcomings, but they brought exciting competitive basketball to MU.
Hopefully the next MU coach will be a step up from Wojo.  If not, it could be even more dismal than Wojo for 7 plus years while they have their free pass.

That is the concern.  They need to get it right or it will be another dismal 5-7 years.

Not only was Deane not a good recruiter, he stated publicly that any Marquette coach would be unable to compete for the best recruits with the P5 schools (they weren't known as P5 then, but that was his message).
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I haven't watched much CBB this year outside of MU, but based on historical precedent and the two big wins, I'd have to imagine that .500 in the BE gives Marquette a pretty good chance to get in.  At 4-5, obviously there is still a chance to get to .500 or better in the BE.  Whether or not they can do it...yeah, who knows.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.
