Fans in the stands
« on: January 23, 2021, 01:37:59 PM »
Politics aside. A bunch of these teams have fans in the stands!

Covid #’s have been decreasing a bit. Maybe MU can get some people in the stands at some point in the next month if people mask up and we can get the vaccine in a few more arms!

MU should offer free admission to all front line health care workers.  They will have already been vaccinated, it would get fans in the stands and would be a great PR move.

Agreed. Whether it is free admission to front line healthcare workers or selling tickets to others, it would be a very low risk move to allow masked and vaccinated fans into the arena.

This team would have been booed at multiple points tonight. Let’s not rush fans back in

Exactly, boo birds would be insane at Fiserv now in pre game intros. Fans would need to be heavily vetted before entry to ensure they wouldn’t boo. It’d be an ugly scene and actually probably best for wojo if no fans allowed.

Wait, you would really screen fans to make sure they wouldn't boo Wojo or boo when a bad play us made? Surely, (Shirley?) you can't be serious.

Is it a MU decision or State of WI decision?

Most likely a local municipality decision, so either the county or the city

I'm in a HS gym every weekend watching my son or daughter play hoops.  It's kind of ridiculous that I can't go to a MU (or Bucks) game.

Mask up
No concessions
25% capacity

You’re lucky you can watch HS hoops. Here in Michigan basketball still isn’t allowed to be played. Such BS

This was probably too snarky. I really like the players, the program off the court, and I think we have some pretty good talent. I just don’t think the coaching staff puts them in the best position to succeed.

You're not related to the players on the court.  Keeping them away from the virus prevents them from contracting it and doing a shut down/pause.  HS hoops doesn't have the money involved that NCAA hoops or the NBA does.

My kids actually aren’t in HS, they play WBYL in HS gyms / field houses. Typically 4 games going on at once.  I sit on bleachers 3-4 feet away from another parent.  We’re all masked up (players too) and we’ve been doing it since November.

There’s easily 500 people in there with players / coaches / refs / parents and next team up.

Given that I do that every weekend, I’m left to wonder why we’re not seeing more fans at MU / Bucks games.

And I would definitely keep a no concession rule to ensure masks stay on 100%.

I believe that you're doing everything properly.  But, I'm guessing that while you don't see the spread but it may be happening regardless.

Maybe the Bucks / MU realize that if they allow fans in there is an increased chance that their bottom line gets hurt by a pause.

While the bottom line would be hurt by a pause, it sure would be helped by ticket sales, parking, and concessions.  You can bet they'll do it as soon as they're convinced it can be done safely.
