I'd go Carton. Lots of energy moments, and would've had assists if his teammates had made shots.

Without reference to the box, just on the eye test, It's Theo John.
Watching with two others, we all came to the same conclusion.

I will go with Lewis. 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Wojo played him the last four minutes, taking out Garcia who was guarding Champianie.  Garcia sat last four minutes.  The defense, not offense in last four minutes won the game.

Theo close second, big blocks, momentum.

Why not - I'll go with Greg too.  13 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, and a steal.  Stepped up with Kobe in foul trouble and not playing particularly well.

Gonna be tough. Everyone has some warts today. I think that Greg should get some consideration also. Made some big buckets today and defense was okay. Theo 5-5 FTs could be what tips the scales.

Offensively, Garcia and Lewis early. Carton and Greg throughout. I will go with Greg.

Better game from Lewis defensively, and solid from Theo. Really nice looking FT's from Theo today as well.

All the players mentioned in this thread have a case. Cliche warning but Theo played like a senior. Was impressed with his poise and thought he prevented a lot of easy St John’s baskets (and 5-5 from the line was huge). He has my vote.

Carton definitely had some moments today, but Theo and Lewis were pretty consistent.

I'd go with Lewis, for a solid offensive game and he was on their best guy.

Couldn’t have been wojo cause he doesn’t know how to coach. I gotta assume Garcia and Lewis planned that.

Theo or Justin.

DJ and Greg were big but they had key blemishes. With D break downs for DJ and Gregs bad inbounding.

Justin was huge off the bench. We really go as he goes. And Theo was the anchor on both ends.

Can't be Greg because of how he inbounds the ball against a press.   Played well otherwise, but that DQ'd him in my mind

All of the others had stretches where they deserved it.   Justin.   Theo.   DJ.

Most of our wins, SOtG has been pretty obvious, a couple there were two legit choices. This one, everybody who played had some very good moments - and some real head-scratchin' moments.

I'm 51/49 with DJ over Theo.

DJ: Whenever he sat, we had trouble initiating the offense. Made a huge floater down the stretch. Knocked down a big 3. Got 5 rebs and 3 steals. Oh ... and his one-handed jam/steal/two-handed thunder-jam spree might have been the most exciting 30-second stretch of Marquette basketball this season.

Theo: Just a man out there. Blocked the attempted tying shot and 2 others, and intimidated throughout. 6 boards and 2 assists. 5-5 from the line, every one of them a swish. Took no crapola from anyone.

Having said that, I'd have no problem with Lewis or Elliott.

And though he didn't have a great game, let's not forget Koby hitting a very Vanderish winning bucket.

DJ: His two dunks slowed the Johnnies run out of the locker room. Then Wojo reinserted him a little before the 8 minute media time out with MU down 2. MU quickly regained the lead and never lost it after that. He was a +4 for the game.  Theo is close but he was a -4, not so much on him but because MU was getting tagged with DJ sitting.

I might add, DJ also had 5 boards and 3 steals. Theo a close 2nd. KPom says JFL, though.

MU82 and the good Doctor make a pretty good case for DJ since we would have been DOA without him due to lack of ballhandlers but I would say Theo for the time played without fouling out, FTs, and the game saving block. I also don't think Greg should get all the blame for his inbounding but whatevs. For those of you that disagree with me...

I’ve read this about four times from you Tower. That press break sucks. That is on Wojo. You are killing GE.
He wasn’t given anything to work with on those inbounds. I understand that it’s difficult for you to give Wojo any blame at all, but inbounds plays both offensively and defensively, and press breaks are terrible.

I'm with you. Everybody who follows basketball at all knew exactly what was coming. The lack of preparation was obvious, and inexcusable. I'm not a 100% Nojo (90%?) but I have the distinct impression that he will never be a great, or even very good, college basketball coach.

No Elliott somehow denied García to do the inbound. He does a good job normally plus his size, Greg was making really terrible dumb choices. Best is García inbounding passing to guards and running near center court to be a pass option or screen for the guards.

Perhaps the coach could decide who should take the ball out of bounds—you know by coaching...just a thought.
Garcia wouldn’t pass to the first open look, and I don’t think he’s best either.

KenPom says Mr. Lewis and I think I have to agree. 13 points, 7 boards, a steal, two blocks, only one TO in a really sloppy game, and played defense on Champagnie in some key spots.

He certainly didn't earn SOTG with his play, but Koby came up big a few times. Obviously the game winner was clutch but he also had a pair of man sized rebounds in the last two minutes to help seal it and hit the go ahead FTs a little bit earlier. He's come up clutch a few times this year...though he did have the travel late in the game today.

I wouldn't begrudge a Carton selection. The dunks were awesome and he did a lot to steady us against the press. I just hated that heat check three. I knew he was going to launch it the second he crossed halfcourt. If you're Markus, you can do that because you have a good chance of hitting them. Carton hasn't shown that ability yet.

That's not all on DJ. A couple of wide open looks missed, and the nice feed underneath to Cain that he completely flubbed but was able to score on a putback.

Lewis seems to get beat constantly on defense. . I would guess he is our worst wing/post defender by far. I haven't dug into the numbers so maybe my eye test is completely wrong, as it often is.

Your eye test isn't wrong,  but he was solid yesterday

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

He’s generally a better help defender that MTM defender, but a lot depends on the matchup. He’s not gonna stay with quick guys.

This was a really tough one.  Watching the game, my eyeballs said Carton, but I was swayed by the comments on JFL stats and defense.

Nod to Koby who provided a stabilizing attitude even if it was not spectacular game for him.

Rocky

Agree it was a close/tough call. But you made the right choice - it’s why you make the big bucks.

I would have gone Theo, but very close call with Lewis.

If Lewis can just cut down on a few freshman lapses on defense, he will be PERFECT because every other part of his game is AWESOME!

Awesome Pick With Justin. JLew, DJ, Theo, Greg, with honorable mention to Koby, for his “possessed” “possession” after shooting 1 of 7, making a Vanderlike layup to beat SJU similar to Vander beating SJU, although it was on the left Davidson side of the hoop. Not to compare 🙂.
