Loved, loved Wojo’s rotation tonight. Give the keys to Carton. Give Greg a few more minutes, especially when we need more energy.

Jamal has been solid all year, except when he has to dribble. So straight up and stiff.

Dawson will be good, but he has to get used to the physicality. He brings the ball down and lets defenders size him up.

Terrible play by Dexter to save the ball. But he’ll contribute this year.

Love that we can turn teams over this year, while also not giving up straight line drives to the bucket over and over.

Koby much better when he can defend and play off the ball versus running the offense.

Like Symir much more as a change of pace guy for a couple minutes. He seemed to push the pace more rather than stand and let his defender crowd him.

Am I missing anything else?

Oh yeah. Justin freaking Lewis is a stud.

That was a great game start to finish. I thought the defense shined most of all. Lewis played like the best player on the floor for nearly the entire half.

Wojo did not take timeouts at the end of the game and it worked out. I would’ve called the timeout, but I can’t criticize when it works out. Great win, and I hope for more of the same. We have seen signature wins during the Wojo era which have led to nothing. Let’s we if it’s different this time.

Also, not to diminish the win, but how in the hell was Wisconsin in the Top 5???

Good thoughts. Although Garcia has been the opposite of impressive the last 2 games. He needs to play more around the perimeter and attack slower guys off the dribble. Less back to the basket and more shooting. He'll figure it out as he bulks up more but he's not facing the same high schoolers anymore.

DJ starting to shake off some rust. He's really shifty and it's nice to have a lead guard with a little more size. Dexter is really filled out and seems athletic. Hope he can make an impact. Is Perez going to even get burn? Is Torrence a big east caliber player?

Marquette coach Al McGuire leaps on top of the scorer's table and celebrates after Maurice Lucas hit a ridiculous last second jump shot to give the Warriors a one point victory over Wisconsin. In the stands almost directly opposite McGuire is Glenn Hughes, father of Kim and Kerry Hughes, Wisconsin's "Twin Towers of Power". Walking in the foreground is dejected Badger Coach, John Powless. Marquette went on to the NCAA tournament and finished second overall. Hank Raymond's reaction is priceless too.

Notice Mr. Hughes "salute" to Mr. McGuire.  Anytime you can get Bucky fans this upset, you have my utmost respect.

Turnovers. Symir and Greg with 10 and 15 minutes respectively, no turnovers. Symir’s defense looks better.

• Well-coached game. Offensive gameplan to keep attacking downhill paid off all night long. Defense allowed Ford to be the three-taker most of the time.
• Carton is interesting. Can really turn it on, but could use more lift on his floaters (can Markus give a tutorial?). Defensively, he's the most aggressive steal pursuer we've had since Jajuan Johnson.

• Wisconsin fans are putting it all on the refs, but it was clear how they were calling the game from the start and they were pretty consistent. Wisconsin didn't get calls until the end because they weren't attacking.

Justin is a throwback to what MU basketball used to be , tough and talented . Love that he is in our program .

In the first minute of the second half, we had four fouls called on us.  UW had a ton called on them in the first half, so it seems like the refs got together at halftime and decided to give them a few make up ones.  Pretty evenly called game.  I never like seeing a game decided on a block/charge, but that was Trice’s fault.  The ref had to call something.

Koby quietly had a very effective game tonight. Got aggressive offensively when we needed it but didn't force much. Solid D as usual.

When DJ has the ball, he looks for opportunities to attack. He doesn't dribble just to do it. The offense is definitely better when he's in the game, and it will get better still when his shot starts falling. I think almost every one of them is going in, and I am always talking to the TV, telling him to take it.

The refs had little to do with this game. I mean, we got called for 4 fouls in the first minute of the second half, 2 were barely touches, 2 were on Theo. Refs are refs. They make some good calls and some bad calls. The call at the end of the game was exactly right. And they get bonus points for not falling for McNutpuncher's obvious flop.

It was Trice. The best part about it was that Lewis recognized the mismatch right away and hollared at John to get out of the post so he could take advantage. Love seeing a freshman know the right play and communicate to a senior to tell him to get out of the way

It was Trice. Meaning that down the stretch, Trice was ... beaten by DJ, beaten by Lewis, beaten by DJ again, and committed the foul on DJ that led to all the excitement at the end. Love it!

I noticed that too (and mentioned it in the SOTG thread). As it was happening, I commented to my wife that I loved seeing a freshman - with under a minute to go in a huge game - calling fir the ball and directing seniors on the floor. That was fantastic.

This is possible but a good zone will require length and some athleticism.  Teams that don’t play it a lot, even if they practice some, don’t magically become good at it.

This is how every significant Wisconsin game has been coached since 2000. They have a system and stick to it. It's a weakness of being a systems coach...a type of coach you claimed to love!

The entire sequence at the end of the half was huge. Down 1, JL hits a quick 3 so we can get a 2-for-1 opportunity, then we get a stop, then DJ hits his 3.

Just like that ... up 5.

Gave us a little cushion to survive our sloppy play and foul-fest early in the 2H. Then Wojo called a good TO and it was a battle the rest of the way.

Agree on both points. Opponents might try zoning us, but not many have the length and athleticism of OK State. And if they haven't practiced it until a day or two before playing us, length and athleticism probably won't be enough.

Either way, Wojo better have us prepared just in case.

Beyond the obvious -- all the great shots, tough D, back-and-forth action, etc -- a couple of things I noticed when watching live that really stood out when watching the replay:

1. DJ needs to get better at using screens. He doesn't take his man close enough to the screener. It looks like the screener hasn't done his job, but it's actually DJ's responsibility there. Will make the pick-and-pop more effective if DJ fixes this.

2. A Wis player (Trice, I think) fired an airball from behind the arc and the ball was headed out of bounds. For some reason, though, Akanno tried to save it. He threw the ball in right under our defensive hoop and Potter got a layup. Never do that, young man!

Beyond the obvious -- all the great shots, tough D, back-and-forth action, etc -- a couple of things I noticed when watching live that really stood out when watching the replay:

1. DJ needs to get better at using screens. He doesn't take his man close enough to the screener. It looks like the screener hasn't done his job, but it's actually DJ's responsibility there. Will make the pick-and-pop more effective if DJ fixes this.

2. A Wis player (Trice, I think) fired an airball from behind the arc and the ball was headed out of bounds. For some reason, though, Akanno tried to save it. He threw the ball in right under our defensive hoop and Potter got a layup. Never do that, young man!

1. Yes—I also noticed this. If he doesn’t either use the screen or use it as a decoy, I think we are going to see some cheap Matt Heldt type illegal screens 35’ from the hoop. DJ needs to get closer or JL DG and TJ are going to make a late step to close that gap caused by DJC, and get called.

Davis is really going to be a real pain in the ass for years. He didn't have the game that JL had but he was really impressive.

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the game. Kid came off the bench and used his size and skills to provide a spark.

Marquette coach Al McGuire leaps on top of the scorer's table and celebrates after Maurice Lucas hit a ridiculous last second jump shot to give the Warriors a one point victory over Wisconsin. In the stands almost directly opposite McGuire is Glenn Hughes, father of Kim and Kerry Hughes, Wisconsin's "Twin Towers of Power". Walking in the foreground is dejected Badger Coach, John Powless. Marquette went on to the NCAA tournament and finished second overall. Hank Raymond's reaction is priceless too.

Notice Mr. Hughes "salute" to Mr. McGuire.  Anytime you can get Bucky fans this upset, you have my utmost respect.
