[Paint Touches] Early observations in late November
« on: November 29, 2020, 03:56:42 PM »
It's too early to get too high or too low, but there was one P&R stat in particular that I've been focusing on all offseason, and the early returns haven't been favorable. Something to keep an eye on going forward.

Enjoyed the analysis.

That was the first time I had seen a replay of Theo's 3. He looked extremely confident as he called for the ball and stepped into the shot. Nice follow-through. Looked like he had been taking (and making) 3s his whole life!

I've had some fun with the whole "Garcia could start for anybody" thing, but if he does even close this week to what he did last week, I will feel bad for having hedged with "just about anybody." Like you, I'm trying not to go too ga-ga over him, but we're all smart enough to simply know talent when we see it.

Yes, it’s rather obvious that Dawson is talented.  Now we will see if he is physically strong enough yet as the opponents get bigger and better.  He has a bright future.

I think the pick and roll analysis dove tails with the observation that Symir is dribbling too much.    Koby rarely goes in a straight line to the basket off of the P&R.       As an aside, when JjJ and Haanif were here, there was a play with a double high screen that they went around, turned the corner, and consistently got a lane to the basket.    It went away under Sacar, who couldn't or wouldn't finish, Markus, who didn't need it, Bailey, who never had the confidence to run it, and the Hausers, who never had the speed.      I think resurrecting that set with DJ and Dexter will be effective.

Theo is everything that's fun about college BB. We have watched a guy get better every year. I am hoping to see the same with Lewis. He is starting from a higher floor that Theo's freshman season, so it should be fun to (hopefully) watch him for 4 years.
