Great to see DJ Carton as 'newcomer of the year'...and love the comment about UConn:

*** No, not all UConn players are technically newcomers - don’t be a smartass

3MW always has great stuff, thanks for posting.

Their conference rankings look correct to me minus Providence and DePaul. Move Providence back to 7/8 territory and move Depaul above SJU and Georgetown and I think I agree.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

DePaul’s fan will appreciate your optimism.

Good read. I knew last year's MU squad wasn't the best ball-handling unit but wouldn't have suspected it was as bad as 345th. That is truly terrible.

“Marquette has ended the year ranked lower than it did in the preseason under the 43-year old Coach K prodigy.”

And there is the prime reason why many of us are not sold on the current coach.

While technically true, some context is needed. In 3/5 of the years that MU finished below their KenPom ranking, they finished within 6 spots (2015, 2018, 2019) of the preseason ranking. You can call those underperforming years if you want, for me, that's playing to expectation. Which isn't a good thing, just not a bad thing.

2016 was a bad season. Personally, it didn't both me that much because it was early and I didn't expect to make the tournament that season anyway and that's what happened....though I expected them to be a little closer then they were. This past season was the first one that really bothered me. We should have been a top 5 seed and were heading that way before the sh*tshow ending.

Very comprehensive review of each team in The Big East.

I agree with the overall Tier categories approach they use . I think the difference between top and bottom of Tier  3 is very small though. There may be some players who have unexpectedly strong seasons in that tier 3 group that could shake up the order.

As always , a lot of the conference performance is going to come from which teams can close out games well. For example last year , Providence was able to close out games well in conference play which made up for their lousy non con performance. DePaul on the other hand couldn’t and ended up in the cellar.
