I assume this means no non-con schedule.

At most 18 conference games and then into the conference tournament

For non-conference games, why not do regional MTE's in a bubble?  Have a bubble with regional teams and play 3 games as a round robin. MU could play Loyola, GB, Milwaukee, Madison, UIC, many teams that don't have to fly to Milwaukee.

This will be over before Chirstmas.

1. There will be an "October Surprise" annoucment of approval of one of the vaccines currently in Phase 3 trials.

2. Since the federal Governement has already funded production ahead of the completion of trials, there is no delay for a "production ramp". That means there will be hundereds of millions of doses of an approved vacciene available the day approval is announced.

3. Because of their migrant communites and communal living arragements, colleges will get priority. The last thing anybody wants is a bunch of college students going home over the Thanksgiving or Chirstmas break and spreading the virus, then brining it back to campus.  So colleges will be high-priority.

4. College athletics will be able to procede without bubbles probably by Christmas

Just like it was going to be over by Easter. Then by warm weather. Then in time for full football stadiums. Now October I guess.

I would love for you to be right, but, you aren't. Here's why.

1. Vaccines currently in phase 3 are still enrolling participants for the trial. That will continue until late September. There are then two doses that need to be administered a week or two apart, and then there is the time needed to monitor the participants over several months. There is no way it will be complete in October. MAYBE late December at the earliest.

2. Maybe. But how will these be distributed? None of this has been figured out yet.

3. It would make sense to give colleges priority, but has anyone actually formally announced this? I think you're making an assumption. Someone needs to pay for the vaccines. Are all universities going to foot the bill for all of their students, faculty and staff? What if some universities, say Liberty University, refuse to mandate it?

4. No way that is possible

One thing I will agree with some of y'all on are the assinine and extreme measures that were/are taken in the "fight" against Covid-19. The goal should never have been to protect everyone from contracting the disease. It was doomed to fail and did not work. The economic fallout, loss of jobs and businesses, and mental anguish, will be felt for decades going forward. Rather, we should have concentrated on providing proper and enough PPE for healthcare works to safely do their jobs and take care of the sick. Unfortunately, the entire pandemic quickly became, and still is, political.
Speaking as one who spends everyday living 6 inches from people's grills, here's my advice. First, properly wear a serviceable mask. Not the latest fashion wear and it should be somewhat uncomfortable. Secondly, throughly wash your hands frequently with soap and water or carry and use hand sanitizer that is at least 60% ethyl alcohol. Thirdly, refrain from as many indoor gatherings as possible. Yes, this means bars and restaurants. Finally, don't wait for the magical vaccine. It may never effectively come. Learn to live with the virus being ever-present and make prudent choices without driving yourself and those important to you, completely crazy, hey?

Sounds quite logical to me.  Question though, would the American society have accepted this and followed through on those recommendations?  I have my doubts and that’s unfortunate

Only 42% Would Get Vaccinated Against COVID
https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200806/only-42-percent-would-get-vaccinated-against-covid
Only 42% of Americans questioned in a new poll say they’d get vaccinated for the coronavirus when and if a vaccine is made available.

The Yahoo News/YouGov poll was conducted July 28-30 among 1,506 adults and provided the lowest percentage of “yes” answers since the poll started asking this question: “If and when a coronavirus vaccine becomes available, will you get vaccinated?”

Only a coin-toss it works for you.

Fauci warns COVID-19 vaccine may be only partially effective, public health measures still needed
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-fauci-vaccine/fauci-warns-covid-19-vaccine-may-be-only-partially-effective-public-health-measures-still-needed-idUSKCN2532YX
An approved coronavirus vaccine could end up being effective only 50-60% of the time, meaning public health measures will still be needed to keep the pandemic under control, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious diseases expert, said on Friday.
“We don’t know yet what the efficacy might be. We don’t know if it will be 50% or 60%. I’d like it to be 75% or more,” Fauci said in a webinar hosted by Brown University. “But the chances of it being 98% effective is not great, which means you must never abandon the public health approach.”

("public health approach" means after the vaccines start, we still have a year of wearing masks, social distancing and no large gatherings.  Nothing changes until the end of 2021)

The real delusion is hoping for a "medical bailout" to make this magically go away.

Dumb question but....

Let's say we end up with 4 or 5 viable vaccines, each with efficacy of 50-60%.

Would someone be able to take multiple vaccines, and if so, would that drive total efficacy percentages up?

You might want to understand the situation. Pfizer, for example, said it will have 100 million doses available by year end. It is a two dose treatment. That is 50 million people....worldwide. It is a co-venture with a German biotech company so no, all the doses will not be earmarked for the USA. That is one example. Moderna the same thing. Distribution will take months at best. College students will not be a priority. How about first responders, hospital staff and elderly?

It is laughable to think you could go to your local doctor in November a get a vaccine. Keep dreaming. This will not be over by December, unless you watch Fox. In that case , this is all a hoax.

It looks like there will not be a season in 20/21. If that is the case will seniors be allowed to play in 21/22 and will the scholarship limit of 13 be increased to allow seniors and their eligible under class men to play?

Reasonable post, Doc, and I mostly agree.

If only our national and state leaders had taken a similar approach, much pain and suffering would have been avoided and the U.S. likely would be well on the road back. But instead of being in good shape like so many other nations, we are still struggling like some kind of "shytehole country."

Time for another indoor political rally in Tulsa, with thousands of mouth-breathers chanting their cult leader's name, hey?

Wearing a mask is the single most important preventative measure all of us can do to help control the spread of this virus. Dr. Fauci, who hasn't touched a patient in 15+ years, intentionally gave the public erroneous info, initially, that masks are of no value. And, President Trump was wrong for not explaining to the American public that its your "patriotic duty" to wear a mask. Thankfully, the President has now appointed Dr.
Scott Atlas as the new coronavirus adviser, hey?

If Trump had a person in a place of power that intentionally put people's lives at risk, for whatever reason, that's on Trump and the administration and should be taken into account come time to vote.  Putting people in place who can get the job done, at whatever position it is, is the most important thing a leader can do.  Trump has failed miserably at this, and as a result we're number 1...in failing to get this virus under control.  Which has thus killed the economy.

There were going to be cases and deaths.  The economy was going to take a hit.  But the fact that we are where we are is absolutely an indictment on the current administration.

Any doctor knows early on in their education that wearing a mask is an added layer of protection, regardless of particle size. At the very least, wearing a mask will not cause any greater harm. By his own admission, Dr. Fauci was attempting to preserve PPE inventory for health care workers on the front lines, aina?

I’m not going to argue with you on that point.  In fact he was the one who admitted that played into the ST decision.  The ONLY one.

Reality though- Dr Fauci is in the NIH—treatments/vaccines. CDC issues these guidelines.  The entire administration slow rolled a long standing policy in the west that masks for people aren’t proven to be effective (like 6 weeks to reversal for medical advice change). They were wrong on the effectiveness and admitted it.  I posted 4/3 earlier.  7/20 should mean something to you too for something you think is important.

So go ahead and blame one man, but it seems petty.

I think Joe would do better.  And I'm not necessarily talking Joe Biden.  Literally anyone named Joe, or any other name for that matter, would have done better than the current guy.  Why anyone thinks he has handled this well is beyond me.

And Sweden has had terrible death rates when compared to its neighbors and has had just the same economic fallout.

Fauci's view changed when the science changed.  (Large droplets versus small droplets.)  The idea that someone can't be trusted because at one point they got something wrong is nonsense.

But I agree with the rest of your post.

Their was no "changing with the science," it was a purposeful deception.

He could have chosen the truth, they are effective but save them for first responders and health care workers.  Instead, he so distrusted the American public he chose to intentionally lie.  He ackowleged it but thinks since his intentions were pure, it is ok to tell lies.

Fauci is arguably the most responsible for politicizing the wearing of a masks (yes, moreso than Trump).  Words have meaning and lies can create tremendous damage.

So, how many more lies is he, and has he, told?

https://thehill.com/changing-america/well-being/prevention-cures/502890-fauci-why-the-public-wasnt-told-to-wear-masks

He also acknowledged that masks were initially not recommended to the general public so that first responders wouldn’t feel the strain of a shortage of PPE.

He explained that public health experts "were concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply.”

By early April, the Strategic National Stockpile had been depleted, and around the same time President Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to have manufacturing chains across the U.S. focus on making vital medical equipment such as ventilators and masks.

Fauci continued to say that they wanted to give as many masks as possible to front line workers and emergency personnel.

“We wanted to make sure that the people, namely the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected,” Fauci concluded.

You're right.  I should have never drawn parallels between Anthony Fauci and a message board guy who is pretty much consistently and laughably wrong.  About everything.

Actually I am just withdrawing myself from this topic.  It's gone political and its against the rules.

I'm feeling sad enough when it comes to the state of this country, and seeing portions of my alma mater's alumni base engaging in this as well just depresses me further.

Humming along?  On planet Earth?  lmfao.  Go recheck the stats, and their economy.  They're down in the mud with the rest of us.

edit:  Because you haven't or won't check the numbers

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Sweden has had 0.8% of their population test positive for covid
US has had 1.6% of the population test positive for covid

So we've out-Swedened them... without trying!  Or if you want it put another way, they are behind the US in the "Herd Immunity" they were trying to chase.

Sweden has 572 deaths per 1M population
USA has 516 deaths per 1M population

Sweden's death rate puts them at the 6th highest in the world. (removing the tiny nations of Andorra and San Marino)

Sweden's GDP declined by 8.6 percent in the second quarter of 2020
https://tradingeconomics.com/sweden/gdp-growth

Norway's  GDP declined by 1.5 percent in the second quarter of 2020
https://tradingeconomics.com/norway/gdp-growth
Denmark's GDP declined by 7.4 percent in the second quarter of 2020
https://tradingeconomics.com/denmark/gdp-growth
Netherland's GDP declined by 8.5 percent in the second quarter of 2020
https://tradingeconomics.com/netherlands/gdp-growth
Finland's GDP declined by 3.2 percent in the second quarter of 2020
https://tradingeconomics.com/denmark/gdp-growth

So its pretty safe to say that Sweden bungled their handling of the virus entirely.  Holding them up as an example of success is the ANTITHESIS of intelligence.  Stop believing what you're told and do the damn research yourself.  You rube.

That is correct.  He was initially trying to preserve limited PPE for healthcare workers while encouraging social distancing for the general public. Bringing this up is misleading. He pivoted almost immediately.  The only agenda he has is the health of the general public and healthcare workers.  He is as non political as it gets.

A lot of confusion came from whether the classification of it was either airborne or droplet (basically whether the virus stays in the air or immediately drops to the ground). Hospital associations lobbied the CDC to keep at droplet, to preserve PPE, when really it was airborne the entire time. Hand washing makes sense, but most research says you can’t get COVID from touching your face unless you touch something infected and IMMEDIATELY touch an opening.

I’ve been in 90+ COVID patient rooms now. The more I do it, sad to say, less worries I get.

Ah, the old "Fauci and others said don't wear masks" defense. Except they admitted what they did and, by late March, were telling everybody to wear masks while your emperor was still mocking the practice of mask-wearing for months despite the science.

He bragged for more than a week that he would be holding an indoor rally, sans masks and social distancing, that 1 million people wanted to attend. Then only a few thousand showed up. And hundreds of them ended up with COVID-19, including several of his own people, and Herman Cain.

Bad analogy. Although neither is the 'best' answer, one would (at least temporarily) reduce COVID morbidity and mortality, while the other dramatically increases it.

Correct.

Normally, I am as pro-vaccine as anyone, but there is no way I would get a COVID vaccine approved before sometime in 2021. There simply isn't enough time to actually see the likely effects of any vaccine by then.

Re 50 years in govt. and not seeing patients in 20 years.

Because you have to blame someone rather than take responsibility.
And it furthers the anti government culture war, remember these people think government is always the problem.

In Bergamo they locked down for a few months, yes the culture is oriented toward the common good and they had leadership.  Now they are practically back to normal, but no tourists allowed from America.
