Thank You
« on: February 17, 2020, 08:54:30 AM »
Today is a big day at our house, as this is the five year anniversary of my son's stem cell transplant to fight his leukemia. This was a milestone marker day that my wife and I had circled for a long time, and we've done a lot of reflection over the weekend, and as we celebrate as a family, we also wanted to mark today as a day of thanks.

Over the year's I've come to this board often reading up on advice/tips other people have posted, and I'll always remember the day my son got diagnosed, not knowing the slightest thing about the hell that is leukemia, posting here asking if anyone had any advice, and the immediate outpouring of support certainly helped get me through the initial shock.

As his treatment began, so many of you sent notes, financial support, thoughts, prayers, and all of it was beyond helpful to our family. To this day, we are grateful, and on behalf of my wife, and our three kids, we say to the Scoop community "Thank You!".

Bradley is doing great today, he's in remission, and for anyone else who has fought or knows someone who has fought cancer, the five year mark is very important. My wife and I will always be on edge, but today we can breathe a little bit easier.

Go Warriors!
-Brian

That’s fantastic!

Dish this is awesome! I was actually wondering recently how your kid was doing. So glad to hear and happy for you guys. Modern medicine is amazing. I know it is no comparison to your ordeal, but my wife recently had an extremely difficult labor and had to have an emergency C section. Things were touch and go for a bit, and she has had a difficult recovery, but they are now both doing fine. 100 years ago, neither probably would have made it. We are lucky to live in the age we do!

I echo your sentiments about Scoop being a supportive place. Where else can you ask and receive this kind of advice and support?

Great news about Bradley, Dish. I cannot believe it's been five years.

I might say this is also a story about great parents who committed themselves to be role models to other families in need.  And let's not forget the lifesaver, your donor daughter.  I suspect you are all to humble, though, but your courage inspires.

With all of the sucky things going on in the world, it's great to hear news like this.

Hope to see him in a White Sox uniform in 10-15 years. :)
