[Paint Touches] Jayce Johnson: Beast of the boards
« on: January 22, 2020, 01:07:54 PM »
I've Tweeted about Jayce's prowess on the glass a few times, but he deserved his own write-up. The numbers when he's grabbed an offensive rebound in conference play are absurd.

The sample is small still, but we've never seen anything like him over the last 12 years.

Great article. Couldn't agree more on Jayce's contribution to the team. (Not a big surprise, given my post earlier this week.) His offensive rebounding percentage isn't just the best by any Marquette player over the past 12 years; it's the best by any MU player since at least the 2001-02 season (as far back as KenPom.com tracks statistics).

BTW, so far in Big East conference play, Jayce's assist rate is 14.4% -- third best on the team behind Markus and Koby.

Thanks for the added context, that's wild.

And he's never has an ARate in his career higher that 5. Currently at 8.6. It's been a wonderful surprise.

He had two kickouts last night (one to McEwen) that were great. Has a high bball IQ.  Works hard.  Definitely not a smooth athlete, but the desire and work attitude overcomes that.

The chef is cookin!
