Who would you rather start in BE Conference play?
« on: January 18, 2020, 04:56:28 PM »
Pick 1:

Player 1: 125.5 Orating, 56.7 eFG%, 8.7 OR%, 17.7 DR%, 10.5 TO%, 3.5 Block %, 64.3 2PT%, 35.5 3PT%.

Or...

Player 2:  120.1 Orating, 56.2 eFG%, 3.4 OR%, 19.2 DR%, 12.9 TO%, 2.0 Block %, 56.1 2PT%, 37.5 3PT%.

What are usage numbers?  That info aside, I would go with Player 1.

What are usage numbers?  That info aside, I would go with Player 1.

Player 1: 75% of the minutes and 17% of the shots

Player 2: 85% of the minutes and 22.7% of the shots

Player 1 leads the BE in ORating in conference games

Powell or Markus?

This isn’t jeopardy where you ask a question. Pick a player.

I don’t want anything to do with Myles Powell. Guy’s a punk. His fake tough guy, cry on the bench because he thinks he’s been ejected from the game or fake a cramp because he choked down the stretch of a game would embarrass me if I were a SH fan. But at least that curl he has hang down is cute.

I’m shocked he’s back from his devastating ankle injury though.

My guess from the start was Brendan vs. what Joey was. Didn’t look into it at all though.

I’ll take Brendan.

Sam?

Correct. Both sets of stats are for Big East games. BB from this year. Sam from last year.

A long way to go, but as BB gains touches and confidence...and he keeps those numbers, Cheeks will be right about him being an All Timer. A big if...but quite a jump, especially in rebounding.

Good guess. Pretty impressive improvement from Brendan this year. His rebounding/defense have really improved. Something clicked for him after Maryland game.

Both guys benefit from being on the floor alongside Markus, but I think Sam was a higher priority from opposing defenses than Brendan has been so far. I'm excited to see where he can be by the time he's an upperclassman, but he's still got some work to do before he's at Sam's level.

I'm also curious to see if his age proves to be a pro or con. He's in such a unique situation for a college player. I could see it going either way.

Glad Marquette HAD Sam. Glad Marquette HAS Brendan.

It's a different team this year but there are still pieces to work with.

We saw Bailey do it with usage versus Maryland. I am encouraged for future games as the offense evolves. Do it consistently with usage, have Koby find his mental game, and that would be huge.

That said, Sam was one of the most fundamentally sound and consistent players I can recall at MU, but BB is giving him a run for his money. Oh, if only Sam stayed and just Joey left...

Just for comparison, can you throw Joey's last year conference percentages up there too?

Sams bum hip hurt his numbers a bit also.
A healthy Sam this year with an ascending Brendan would have been fun.

I'm still having fun regardless. Sacar and Brendan's games compliment each other's very nicely and I'm still not certain both would still be here if Sam OR Joey had returned.

Joey in conference play:

105.8 Orating, 53 eFG%, 3.2 OR%, 13.3 DR%, 22.1 TO%, 0.2 Block%, 40.3 2Pt%, 45.2 3PT% (led BE).

Adding: 77% of minutes, 17% of shots.

Now trust me brothers on Wojo long term....like you almost did when I said MU will beat Nova.  This year I say 4th place (health contingent), but some fun times ahead beyond.

About 5-6 times a game, I say some version of, "Wow, Bailey has become such a better 'X'!" With the X being either rebounder or defender or shooter or whatever.

Very impressed with how much he has improved ... especially with Wojo so obviously de-motivating him (and every.other Warrior) every day.
