I will admit I don't have a clear idea.  It just seems to me AI will continue to attract heavy investment.

You set yourself up so easily with stuff like this, my man...

That being said, this felt like it was likely given the way Jensen Huang was talking the last week or so.  That being said, bubbles always attract heavy investment, that's what makes them bubbles.   AI is the Dot-Com Bubble all over again.  Tons of websites/companies that looks ridiculous in hindsight but fed off the fervor.  We see it right now with AI.  People use AI as a placeholder for algorithm or anything that is done on the back end and people lose their mind for it.  I'd say the main difference is that there are companies making bank off the AI trend that have actual tangible non-AI business (like NVDA for one), so they won't go to absolute zero like the dot com crash, but there is plenty of inflated valuations to claw back.

And while bubbles suck for the investors, I think they are actually pretty good for the underlying technology. The dot-com bubble is a great example of sorting out winners and losers, and it gave more discipline to those doing the investing in the future.

Nvidia isn't an AI company, they're a 'shovel' company during this gold rush.

I just wish they would do a better job with their consumer cards. The 5090 being their only offering with 32gb of memory is frustrating.

It was a crazy whipsaw of a day for the market. Up big for the first two hours, then dove like a hawk that spotted a rabbit. Finished down 1.5% (QQQ down 2% plus).

NVDA was up 5% but finished down 3%.

I think investors have no idea what the Fed will do.

Does anyone else doubt 4.3% growth in the 3rd quarter?

4Q is going to be rough.  Pretty much every customer and supplier and companies in adjacent industries I've spoken with said this is their worst December since the Great Recession.

Meanwhile, consumer confidence spirals down for the 5th straight month. We have some extreme divergence going on.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Well a bunch of the most valuable companies have a circular revenue model between them so it doesn't shock me, but it's not sustainable in the slightest.

The top 10-20% is fueling the economy and enjoying its fruits. For the rest of Americans, it's a dumpster fire. Disposable personal income was flat in the quarter, and consumer confidence has plummeted. The rate of inflation continues to rise, and severe inflation is about to hit health-care, utility and insurance costs.

I don't doubt 4.3% GDP growth, it would be odd if it were flat tbh.

GDP is driven up by inflation. We haven't seen inflation numbers for month, but seeing people struggling while GDP is growing at a good clip tells a bit of a story.

Gallup's latest poll asked if Americans approved of the jobs being done by various leaders in Congress, the administration, the Supreme Court and the Federal Reserve. Nobody received anywhere near 50% approval rating.

The highest rating? 44% approved the job being done by Jerome Powell, who has put up a good fight to keep inflation under control and to protect the Fed's independence.

I won't go into the other names because most are politicians, but everyone knows them.

Jerome Powell hasn't been perfect but he's navigated some challenging waters these past buncha years. DJT's best appointment?

Certainly, but that's one low MF'n bar.
