Katz ranks top shooting teams - MU #6

6. Marquette: The Golden Eagles took a perimeter shooting hit when Sam Hauser (44.5 career 3-point shooter) and Joey Hauser (42.5) transferred. But they’ve got Markus Howard and no else does. Howard can pull up from anywhere and sometimes doesn’t even need to see the bucket. Howard made 120 3s and converted at a 40-percent clip. Howard alone keeps Marquette on this list.

Of note ... Seton Hall #2, Creighton #5,

If that happens, we are in for a fun season. I’m not going to hold my breath though.

I would be surprised if even 5 teams on his list are top 15 at the end of the season.  I would put the over/under and 3.5

Considering that Seton Hall was #281 in 3pt shooting last year and on paper has done nothing to get better, you'll forgive me if I discount this list.

Seton Hall is a TERRIBLE shooting team. In his best stretch, Powell just made 41% from three in their last 6. And there were 29 TEAMS that shot a better three point percentage than SHU's BEST three point shooter, Myles Cale.

Katz should be ashamed that he hit the "publish" button.

I think if he said top “scoring” teams it would be more believable...even for Marquette, his logic is we still have Markus even though we lost Sam and Joey.  Wat?

At least at Marquette you have Koby, Cain, Anim, & Markus who have all had full seasons where they averaged 39+% from three. I don't see us as a top-10 team (if we're top-25 that would be awesome) but his rationales for most of these are sketchy at best.

Out lack of proven 3-point shooters is one of my main concerns going into this season, so Katz's ranking really raised my eyebrows.

I would be thrilled if he is even close to right about this and if I am wrong.

Katz’ comments mentioned more of clutch 3’s or when they happen in big games or big moments which of course is different than over a season and as a team.

I have Powell down for 43% in combined Big East Tourney and NCAA tourney. And if you take away their final game, a loss to Wofford, Powell was 58% from 3 in that limited stretch of conference tourney and NCAA’s. I am guessing this is some of Andy’s thinking here. Also Cale was pretty pedestrian except going 6 of 8 from 3 in a high profile 79-75 final regular season game vs Villanova. Otherwise in Big East Tourney NCAA’s combined he was 29% from 3.

Is that "clutch," or simply a guy who got hot for a stretch?

You'd have to take it up with him. He basically said that is who he wants shooting the ball with the game on the line as some sort of an explanation to his answer/rankings

Then I guess I'd say write that article, because saying “best clutch shooting individuals” is very different than the 15 best shooting teams.
