Why St. John's believes in Mike Anderson (ESPN)

A good article focused on Anderson's adjustment to New York and the outlook for the St. John's program. This was my favorite quote:

"It may be more like 25 minutes of hell, 15 minutes of what the hell are we doing?"

If someone asked me which team the mafia approached to try and shave points/throw the game... St John's is my number 1.

Anderson is the right coach at the right time for The Johnnies. Something that has rarely happened.

Mullin and Lavin  were like a golfers whose score cards were filled with eagles, birdies, bogeys and double bogeys. Anderson will get pars and some birdies and not many bogeys. Net result will be improvement. There is pent up demand in the city for a strong St. Johns basketball product so any consistent level of success will feed on itself.

I've seen you say something to this effect a couple times, just curious what you mean by this and how you see it playing out if Anderson has some success?

When they’re good they pack the Garden and get a ton of media attention. The media wants them to win and NYC hoops fans will jump aboard, especially as the Knicks continue to suck.

In addition to the above, the Johnnies are one of the larger schools in our league with lots of alumni . Also , their stronghold is Long Island, where the LIRR trains go directly into the Garden. Finally, the Johnny Fan is a very unique species that feeds on their own obnoxiousness. Add winning into that and that is like pouring gas on the fire.

DePaul is bigger.  At least SJU made the NCAAs is most of the Scoopers' lifetimes.  Zero for the Big East is an abomination for Ponsetto.

MU having to host NMD on a Sunday morning, because DU doesn't warrant a national TV audience on a February Saturday when no NFL is on, is terms for impeachment. They should be stripped down, water tortured, and drummed out via a BE spanking machine.
