1988.
Beer Can.
Thursday night.
Mildly drunk after putting the fake ID to moderate use. The Nick Papageorgio thing pretty accurate.
Perusing MU hoops media guide.
Stuck in the Dark Ages...just before KO revives the cadaver.
Entranced by the Al quotes. Thinking how sublime the whole Al era must’ve been.
For those who lived it.
I got a strange feeling that we would get back.
To the halcyon days.
Had no idea what cd or track was in my player.
Pressed Play.
Looked out the window to a crisp Milwaukee night...
Twinkling lights of the city.
Random student revelers on the nearby streets.
Church organ music...emanated from the CD.
Wait.
Robert Plant intoned...
Lyin. Cheatin. Hurtin.
That’s all you seem to doooo.

Ok ok, I didn’t hear the meaning of those words..I knew what the song was about.
I’m still perusing the media guide...Al talking about Congratulating the Temporary or something.
Then the chorus hits.
Your Time is Gonna Come.
I didn’t  hear it as the death knell. (Robert Johnson, who at the time wrote for the MU Tribune, was writing an op-ed  that to free up resources, MU should consider going to DivisionII status...never before or since have I so wanted to kill a man for wanton, profound ignorance)

I’m hearing nothing but positive vibes despite the cacophony of the MU hoops Dark Ages...
Your Time is Gonna Come.

Your Time is Gonna Come.

I mean that song does just rock, despite its subject matter.

I still hear it as our Championship time being near.

Faint memories of McCormick ‘88 as we slew Kentucky in 1994 down in Tampa.

Plant came through a little louder in ‘03 up in the Twin Cities.

More to Come before our time is at hand.

Can they find a 1000X scale Bo Ellis shoe/foot to crush the ole BeerCan?
Explosives just don’t fit.

Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she’d be a super horse......what’s this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

I'm pretty sure explosives won't work.  We tried everything short of that before move-out after 86-87 freshman year... including beer can softball in the hallway and sealing up the bathroom to make a swimming pool.  The place is indestructible.

79-80 8th floor.  Did they give you guys crap if you took the elevator to the third floor like everybody used to do my year there?

99-00, 5th floor.

And yes I was the one who drunkenly duct taped the elevator doors shut to prove that duct tape could hold an aircraft engine on(long story of my dads, having to crew a plane flying cross country with 1 of 4 engines duct taped to the wing). Whoever was stuck in the elevator for 90 minutes while they fixed it, I'm sorry

Of course, they didn't let chicks live in McCormick when I when I was at Marquette, but I do have a number of friends who lived on the 12th floor in 79-80 and 80-81.  Attended some great floor parties there.

Imagine that, you youngsters.  Officially sanctioned parties with kegs and hard liquor.
Have some patience, FFS.

On my campus visit, in February of 84,  I spent two nights at McCormick.   On Friday,  the floor I was staying on threw a hell of a party, 7 kegs, IIRC, plus liquor.    Made out with my first OD girl that night.  Scholarship test the next morning with a spectacular hangover and  predictable results.   On Saturday, I stayed with some sophomores in one of the triples.    We went and played basketball until 1 in the morning at the Rec Center.

There really was no other place for me after that.

What on earth do you mean, Sister Chick? I was at MU and in McCormick while you still were at FRHS and I swear there were more than a few “chicks” living there!

Quite a few as I recall!  ;D

Ringoutahoya.com is dead, kin.  That one dude tried to bring it back, but no dice.  McCormick Hall's Ice Cream Machine died with rivals.  moved out of the dorms and started workin' for the Greek, ya know.
