Hmmm...just thinking about what our opponent's fans must think about your game thread posts.

At least the fans you are talking about are trashing the other team, not their own.

Some dude said Marquette is a mediocre team that is fringe top-25 ::)

Some others corrected them but he doubled down using KenPom as the only other metric. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, fans are irrational everywhere and not just on Scoop.

I enjoy how a guy called Marquette a Top 10 team and everyone rags on him since they are only 11.

They are Scoop worthy.

Actually they laid into their entire team.

Me asking “I have no idea where Markus was planning to dribble” on the other hand is not calling they entire team trash.

Maybe next time, dolt.

Yeah there was a strong debate on there about our worth. Later on a few of them gave us our due tho.

The announcing team really broke them too.

That Pete Gillan or whatever is hilarious to listen to. A beautiful trainwreck.

Butler fans hated how he kept cheering for a Marquette explosion. Which he definitely seemed to be.

There's been a few games where I thought the announcers were over the top on Marquette.  I think they gravitate towards the easy story which is Markus.

Butler fans hated how he kept cheering for a Marquette explosion. Which he definitely seemed to be.

Before that, Gillen spent several minutes saying over and over again how huge the win would be for Butler, who had a 6 or 8 point lead at the time. I yelled at the TV: "There's 16 minutes left, pal, don't start celebrating for Butler yet."

As for ButlerScoop, I have enough fun with the crazies here (myself included). I don't need to check out other sites' crazies.

Yeah I just remever the explosion part where he kept predicting we’d get hot and seemed to want to be right. I think it was Creighton game where he really seemed to be against us as well.

Guy is a character tho. I’ve heard him for a handful of MU and Minny games. Says outlandish stuff.

Well, I mean, the original post doesn't exactly make Marquette fans look overly intelligent when discussing who Marquette would go after if the position opened up this offseason:

"For Marquette, if Wojo were to leave after the season (hypothetically Duke), my guess would be that MU would look at our current assistants (namely, Stan Johnson and Brett Nelson), Travis Diener and Brian Wardle. I'm sure there would be a big push from fans to somehow get Dwayne Wade and/or Doc Rivers interested, I don't think that would be a very realistic (or wise) path. I think our current admin was incredibly turned off by the pursuit of Shaka Smart (so I doubt they would look to pursue a "name" head coach). Wojo, Buzz, Crean and O'Neill were all assistants before getting hired at Marquette, and I'd imagine a similar path being taken if/when Wojo moves on (whenever that will be - hopefully, not for a very long time!)."

The only two people Marquette would even consider on that list are Stan (who would probably? be the frontrunner) and Wardle.  Nelson is fair enough to mention but I don't think would get an honest look.  But Diener?  The highest level he's coached is like below the Director of Basketball Operations if I remember correctly.  Dwyane Wade?  Literally no coaching experience and going right from playing in the NBA to coaching Marquette?  Doc Rivers?  That might be the most absurd one listed, even with Diener and Wade listed!

https://butlerhoops.com/forum/index.php?threads/butler-bulldogs-15-11-at-marquette-golden-eagles-24-3-2-20.2478/

A few gems:

#54 - "Sitting in the Marquette season ticket holder section. This is rough"
(Yeah... too bad MU only has enough season ticket holders to fill one section.)

#106 - "Defense looks good and if you told me we would be up 1 at half I would have jumped all over it. We will see the second half, but I feel good."
(It's like the Butler version of JayBee, except ignorant).

#125 - "Well this 2nd half is going to be something either way."
(Thanks, Yogi.)

#149 - "Someone will go on a run, first team to 70 wins."
(Especially when one team doesn't get to 70.)

#175 - "Need to find a big that can jump"
(I prefer a big who can Eurostep, bwah haha hahaha hahha hahah ahahahah whoooooo *sigh* yeah.)

#186 - "Up 8. Go get a snack. Down 10."
(Until now, I always wondered why they had bleachers at Hinkle.)

#213 - "It’s so embarrassing to watch good to mediocre teams beat the absolute brakes off Butler just because they’re on the road when they talked about “Gritty Not Pretty” in the off-season."
(For the record, the 'good to mediocre" teams typically beat the brakes off the 'sh|tty to embarrassing' teams.)

#220 - "So we foul Johns and they don’t call it"
(Ummmm.... maybe.... because you're playing Marquette?)

#235 - "Absolutely. It's mathematically ridiculous."
(Wait for it....)

#246 - "Duh, 11 is 10 now."
(.... and there it is.  Well played, Butler fans.)

#259 - "Neither Howards played their usual game."
(Sucks for you that the one Howard did.)

#291 - "They are like a poorly trained puppy.... they make you think maybe they are catching on, but then you realize it was just a coincidence that they did what you wanted."
(Yep... we know that feeling.  It's just like when someone goes to back-to-back championship games so you invite them over to play.)
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Have not seen any punk in Markus. He does try to do way too much with the ball and needs to correct that, but his overall game has to put him near the top 10 all time of MU players. And that is saying a ton.

Yeah my love of Theos D compares admirably to their hatred of Jordan Tucker’s

The irony of making a dumb comment about fitting in with dumb comments
Butler is pretty meh this year at best, which probably increases the odds of their fans pissing and moaning.  Marquette is 22-4, and yet:

Some of Markus dribbling makes absolutely no sense
Jesus Joey
Sacar you can’t miss that
Bad sequence for Markus tho. Wtf was that pss
Jesus terrible start
Markus does this every fu cking time
He simply can’t dribble
Wtf sam
Markus having his usual ball handling meltdown.
What the hell was that Toony.
Just knew Markus would fu cking force it
Just stupid crap after stupid crap. No D. Can’t make shots.
crapty passing and no post ups.
Wtf was that
For fu cks sake Markus
Jesus Markus
Ed can’t miss that.
Markus can’t make layups.
Theo use some damn touch jeez
These turnovers have to fu cking stop.
Dumb shot there Markus
And now the bad Markus spurt
The completely unnecessary chucks by Bailey are so annoying.
We were just up 8 with the ball and Markus handed them 4 pts
Wtf is Markus doing???
Sacar needs to fu cking stop
Jesus Christ Markus
Markus stop with the over dribbling
Baileys pass awful.
Markus bounce pass awful.
Sacar biffs another
Stop with the stupid bounce passes!!!
2 more missed layups
Bailey basically hands them points with a stupid pass
Beating a dead horse here but these missed Markus layups are killer.
He’s missed ever single one today
Slow down Markus! Dumb foul.
Still very stupid of Morrow
Markus forgets how to dribble again
Bailey needs to stop just throwing up shots.
Sam looks absolutely terrible. Either bobbles the ball or launches a brick every time
This is absolutely brutal.
We are getting absolutely abused on the boards and down low
Joey straight up loses the ball on offense Then commits a terrible second foul.

and on and on and on
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Hahaha so “Sacar you can’t miss that” is equivalent to saying “jordan tucker is so frustratingly awful on defense right now”

Also, you conveniently did not mention any positive post i made in your waste of time endeavor.

Are fans not allowed to say a guy can’t miss a point blank lay up??

I’m genuinely curious on what type of stupid I am dealing with here

Well, you had 25 posts in the Butler game thread and in those posts. T Smith found about 45 negative comments.

But to be fair, I did find a couple of comments that weren't critical of the team or its players:

1.  "Sam!" (could have been said either in excitement or anger; I will give you the benefit of the doubt)

2. "Nothing I said was remotely bad".
Have some patience, FFS.

Watching the game, almost all I could think of was, "can somebody stick a sock in Gillen's mouth"!! Doesn't anyone tell these commenters that it is not their job to 1) tell the viewers what they are seeing (it's not a radio game), 2) talk about each other and tell or make "jokes" -- they are not comedians  and they're NOT funny.

I dread hearing Gillen. He's like the announcer equivalent of Jim Burr.

Have Pete and Dickie ever been paired?

They are both color guys, not announcers.

BTW, I don’t know what would be worse though - pairing Pete with Dickie Simpkins, or pairing him with Dickie V.

Butler is pretty meh this year at best, which probably increases the odds of their fans pissing and moaning.  Marquette is 22-4, and yet:

Some of Markus dribbling makes absolutely no sense
Jesus Joey
Sacar you can’t miss that
Bad sequence for Markus tho. Wtf was that pss
Jesus terrible start
Markus does this every fu cking time
He simply can’t dribble
Wtf sam
Markus having his usual ball handling meltdown.
What the hell was that Toony.
Just knew Markus would fu cking force it
Just stupid crap after stupid crap. No D. Can’t make shots.
crapty passing and no post ups.
Wtf was that
For fu cks sake Markus
Jesus Markus
Ed can’t miss that.
Markus can’t make layups.
Theo use some damn touch jeez
These turnovers have to fu cking stop.
Dumb shot there Markus
And now the bad Markus spurt
The completely unnecessary chucks by Bailey are so annoying.
We were just up 8 with the ball and Markus handed them 4 pts
Wtf is Markus doing???
Sacar needs to fu cking stop
Jesus Christ Markus
Markus stop with the over dribbling
Baileys pass awful.
Markus bounce pass awful.
Sacar biffs another
Stop with the stupid bounce passes!!!
2 more missed layups
Bailey basically hands them points with a stupid pass
Beating a dead horse here but these missed Markus layups are killer.
He’s missed ever single one today
Slow down Markus! Dumb foul.
Still very stupid of Morrow
Markus forgets how to dribble again
Bailey needs to stop just throwing up shots.
Sam looks absolutely terrible. Either bobbles the ball or launches a brick every time
This is absolutely brutal.
We are getting absolutely abused on the boards and down low
Joey straight up loses the ball on offense Then commits a terrible second foul.

and on and on and on
What an absolute joke of a post. The absurdness is palpable. It's a goddamn sports board. People are going to point out the mistakes during a game regardless of the teams record. They are going to analyze plays.. so freaking what? It doesn't mean they aren't satisfied with the win. Doesn't mean they dont support the team enough. Its just inoquess sports banter. I mean what the hell. I saw alot against butler that could be improved upon in the future. Yes markus took silly shots and some other things with other players were bad etc... again so what?? If they have a good record must we all just never point out anything we dont see as good and just say ohhh yay marquette won and sing Koom by ahhhhhh no matter what?? It's a damn sports board. What do you expect what a joke. And correct me if I am completely misreading your post

I think the point TSmith was trying to make is balance. Just like someone would be called out for blowing sunshine up our butts if they only posted positive things during a game thread of a blowout loss in a losing season, I think some are going to call out those who only point out the negative things during a game thread of a double digit win in the best season in over 5 years.

You are against every conviction I have on here it seems lol. Even Duke boards will call out bad plays during a game. It means nothing. Its just people on a sports board. Every team in every sport does it..now if they only.post negative stuff and nothing else.well fine that is ridiculous but who on here is really doing that

I think this is the point that TSmith was trying to make, that there are some who post nothing but negatives or a vast majority negatives. Just like many would roll their eyes at someone trying to put lipstick on a pig in a blowout loss, many will roll their eyes at those who make dozens of posts criticizing plays and nothing else in a game that we win by double digits.

Personally, I think both the pessimists and the optimists care too much about what the other ones are posting.

I agree.

While watching a game from home, I mutter and stomp my feet for bad plays or bad streaks.  Other folks vent on the game thread.  Not my style, and it has become too negative for me to participate, but I have learned to let it be.

Let it be, oh let it be.

I read them after the fact, particularly after victories, for the comedic value.    Almost never during a game anymore.

Nah, not at all.  God knows I've made my share of negative comments out of frustration at times. The entire point of my post was to provide evidence when I said he would fit right in to the Butler board game thread, which was a whingefest of bashing their own players.

A few posters have elevated continuous whining to an art form, and as a result a large majority of scoopers won't even go into the game thread, which is unfortunate IMO. If it was actually dissecting plays or pointing out what went wrong, that would be great, but it is constant complaining about why MU only leads by 10, or one poster who jumps on Wojo if the team falls behind by more than 3 points, then disappears when MU rallies.  Most of the so-called analysis comes down to "Markus iz dum".

I've found that putting four posters on ignore reduces the posts by 50% but the whining by 98%.  But the whining keeps a lot insightful scoopers as far away as they can get from game threads.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Yeah, I shouldn't go, but it's a hard habit to break. I don't post much there anymore, except an occasional "we got this."
