It most certainly did.  And let's credit Markus and Sacar for knowing what to do to maximize the advantage.  Markus' wave goodbye was the first swagger we've really seen from him this year.  And a damn good sign.

Which game was that? Loved that

I'd be pissed if I was Kansas State.  It was bad both ways, but the officiating destroyed a lot of flow to the game, and took a less-deep KS out of their game.

Amen.

1. Great work, tower, and great work War Eagles!
I'm going to have to object to the violent militarization of our mascot.  The noble bird should not be depicted as an aggressive figure. This insensitivity to avians needs to end!

Just re-watched both technicals, on K-State, and later on Hauser.

Both calls by the refs were TERRIBLE.  Both kids reacted with very short "WHAT???" with quick walking away .. Both got preposterous Technicals.   4 fouls, none of them should have been called.  Turrible.

Great moment by a fan behind the MU bench who was on the Jumbotron, visibly reacting to one of the reffing crew's travesties in utter consternation .. who then got the left and right student sections yelling back and forth.   That guy should be the new "jump around" guy on the Jumbotron.

You do realize that was scripted, right?

Meant to say Warrior Eagles. Not sure why it got truncated to War. Musta been my fat fingers.

McGuirl got in Markus' face after he guarded him one possession and got a stop.  He was talking $ht to Markus.  That was a mistake

This.

Marcus certainly made him pay for talking trash.

Jamie Luckie called both of them. He is a terrible referee.

Multiple people on the K State board wishing Markus to have a season ending injury after he waved to the K State player that got fouled out, yikes
So that 24kt guy was from K State lol

Howard's points were all seemingly in the flow of the offense, can only recall one hero ball. For 45 points, that's pretty awesome.

Oddest officiated game I've ever seen, those guys were screwy, something weird going on.

Agreed with both.

The defense was outstanding and has been in all but 1 game this season.

Chartouney didn't do much for the stat sheet, but he played pretty well.  Same with Joey, his defense was awesome.

We're going to be just fine.  Just like the BE is going to be just fine.

Or maybe we're SLU and the BE is the A10/Sun Belt.

Yeah it didnt seem scripted to me. Seemed like a guy taking advantage of the situation.

And if it was scripted, great job MU.

I'd like to hear Wojo say .. MU didn't win because of the refs, K-State didn't lose because of them, but that crew should not see another college basketball game.

The number of stupid non-shooting fouls was off the charts, both ways.  Not to mention a ton of shooting fouls NOT called.   If those 3 bozos show up at Shake Shack for their freebie, they should be denied.

Great moment by a fan behind the MU bench who was on the Jumbotron, visibly reacting to one of the reffing crew's travesties in utter consternation .. who then got the left and right student sections yelling back and forth.   That guy should be the new "jump around" guy on the Jumbotron.

.. the Chaluparena was maybe 90% full .. frankly, I didn't think it was very loud.  I suppose MU was up most of the game so the crowd wasn't "needed."  I kinda wonder, the stadium is so voluminous that sound dissipates in the space.

Also, what the hell is with the long lines for the men's bathrooms?  It takes effort to screw that up.
Wow sounded super loud second half on tv

I believe it was March 3rd against Creighton.  He nailed 2 free throws with 3 seconds left to ice the final Bradley Center game.

Felt this was the most encouraging aspect of this game.  Defense definitely is MUCH better.

The rest of the game, hard to assess.  Markus took 21 FTs.  Officiating was brutal.  Affected K State more due to early foul trouble and less depth.

Great win to get and helps offset Indiana loss.

Lol.  Couldn't assess anything against Charleston Southern because the competition sucked (until you figured out we turned over the ball a lot, then we could assess our turnover problems based on Charleston Southern).

Now the competition steps up and we are up double digits almost the entire half but we can't assess anything because the refs sucked.

AKA Ners can only assess a Wojo coached team after a loss.

Yep that sounds right.

I thought the arena was plenty loud despite the refs trying to make everyone miserable.

Quote from: Sultan of South Wayne on December 01, 2018, 04:17:24 PMIf that's what the NCAA wants in terms of calls, no one is going to watch the games.  Both technicals were complete BS.  Way too many whistles.

I rarely feel bad for opponents, but I did for KSU. There were absolutely terrible calls both ways, but their lack of depth couldn't sustain it. Aside from the technicals, the Dean Wade stretch between TV timeouts was crazy. At the 2nd half under-16, he had zero fouls. At the under-12 he had 4. I don't know if even Peter Ryckbosch could pick up 4 fouls that fast if he tried.

I just got done explaining the whole scene to my wife when I got home.  I thought it was just a guy trying to act dorky, because he would stop making the face for a second, then make it again.  I like to think I don't fall for things like that but like you said, if it was scripted fine. The end result getting the dualing student section cheering was fun

The officiating mattered in this game. We cant expect to draw half the starters into foul trouble every game. It's great that Markus &, Co took advantage of if today, but this crew was awful. This wont be the norm.

They were awful both ways and there is no evidence to suggest we wouldn't have won the game anyways

MUEng92

I fully expect the exact opposite referee performance next week.  Well the exact opposite from MU's point of view at least.  Markus's arm/elbow motion on drives will be miraculously seen next Saturday even though it wasn't today.  I expect him to foul out at some point

Bad reffing in college basketball will most definitely be the norm.

The refs were atrocious both ways.

But that's right.  Wojo didn't beat Louisville, they beat themselves.  Wojo hasn't made a single NCAA Tournament, our Xavier and Creighton wins don't count because of injuries and those pushed us into the Tournament.  And we didn't beat KSU today because the refs sucked.

Sheesh.  There was a lot to take away from today's game.  Sacar has been found.  Markus scored a lot without taking a lot of dumb shots or making a lot of dumb decisions.  Bailey, Ed, and Chartouny are all contributing, though maybe not always in ways we thought or hoped they would.  An offense that we've all been complaining about just scored 83 points on one of the best defensive teams in the country, while most people were predicting MU in the 60s.  This was a very big, good win.

The officiating mattered, but Wojo coached this one well. KSU clearly intended to chase Markus & Sam off the three point line early. That's how they had the early lead. We adjusted by attacking inside.

The refs made themselves known, but we took advantage by continuing to attack and using our depth. We established a double digit lead and after the first few minutes of the second half I don't think it ever got back to single digits. The fouls hurt them more than us because of depth (McGuirl & Trice were not good) & we pressed that advantage.

The refs did influence the game, but part of the reason for that is because we kept putting them into positions where they had to make calls if they are going to remain consistent.
