Turnovers
« on: November 18, 2018, 08:42:48 AM »
The problem the last few games has been Turnovers. Yes our O is still working out some kinks and has been weirdly off... but TO’s!

PC made a ton of 3’s yesterday but the story this season has been all the TO’s we have been committing.

We need to start JoeC at the point and let Markus crush it off ball. We need ball security.

Chartouny IS Derrick.    With a slightly better jumper.

Chartouny made 3 3’s yesterday, Derrick had 11 in 4 years. Derrick was an absolute liability as a PG due to his inability to shoot

It's too many, but Chartouny does has a higher turnover rate than Markus so far this season. My initial thought it to slow the pace, but we've turned it over in both high and low tempo games so far. Hopefully as these guys get into synch it'll improve. We are working a lot of new pieces in with Chartouny, Morrow, Joey, Bailey, so hopefully it'll improve as these guys get more comfortable together.

FWIW, 3 of our 4 opponents so far are top-100 in defensive turnover percentage, and two (UMBC & IU) are top-25. The only other top-100 teams in defensive turnover percentage we are slated to play before conference play are K-State and Buffalo. That includes the UT/UL opponent.

FWIW yesterday in the SH vs SLU game, SH forced 24 TO's while only coughing it up 9 times, and still lost.  15 is still too much for us, but not all TO's are created equal.  Against every cupcake, we've had at least 2-3 TO's from players posting up and being called for an offensive foul.  These teams are generally smaller, so they are going to get that call more frequently.  Once BE play starts, I expect the number of times this happens to go down.  Also, an offensive foul on a post up is not nearly as bad as Markus getting his pocket picked.  If Chartouny moves into a larger role, and allows Markus to spend more time off the ball, I think our TO numbers will be just fine.

True, but in these past 2 games, JC has 1 TO in 41 minutes while Markus has 11 in 70 minutes.

Yes sir, once Wojo hands Joe C the keys to the Point, this team  will stabilize and play much better as many Posters had commented.

Yes, and I hope he continues to grow in the role. Yesterday was very encouraging. But the converse is that in the first two games, JC had 5 turnovers in 35 minutes and Markus had 4 in 59.

Derrick was a plus athlete who was an absolutely terrible shooter. I contend he should have played college football and would have probably been playing on Sundays if he did.

JC was terrible those first 2 games.  We can't win consistently if he plays like that.  Let's hope that was growing pains.

Oh, and brew, I know EXACTLY why we struggled yesterday.  Where the eff did you get those RED ear protectors?  For the love of God, have some pride man.  She'll never get #nored's attention wearing that crappy color.

Except his only football offer was Stanford and Derrick valued education so he followed basketball to Marquette.

The scorekeeper was generous as well. Markus had 3 more in the PC game they gave to other players.

They are pink, not red. Just like her other onesie is a pink Marquette onesie. Not red. I don't dress her in any red.

Not sure I understand.  If I valued education and had a choice, I’m going to Stanford.
