If I'm correct the AP poll system allows for a situation where everybody votes you in the 24 or 25 slot but you don't actually appear right? If there was a team that a bunch of voters disagreed on and some had them as high as say 10 and other left them out that team could actually jump the unanimous pick.

It could happen, but seems unlikely. Similarly, being named on every ballot could also inflate our rating if there's a great disparity in who the bottom 6-7 teams are but we're consistently getting points.

One of the things to consider is that most (if not all) AP voters will expect to include more than one BEast team in their initial poll.  For many, we'll be that second choice.  I suppose St. John's is the other candidate.

Just to clear this up in case somebody is confused by your wording ...

There is absolutely no requirement that AP voters include teams from any conference.

I'm pretty sure you're saying that it's reasonable for folks to assume that most AP voters will include more than one Big East school, and I concur.

For context, last year the #25 team in the AP preseason poll received 130 points. The number 20 team received 362, and top ten teams were about 1,000 or more.

Expand your context to add how many AP voters there are (65), and how many total points can be extrapolated from 10 points from four voters in the total number of ballots (162.5), and how that adds to the conversation given the partial context you provided.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I have not. But most have us about 20 spots too low.

I was thinking about 23 spots too low to be fair!

I was surprised to see Wisco in at 20 and MU down to 24.  I think we're a little low for a preseason poll, and Wisco is way too high.  This voter may be proven right post season after both teams have a chance to prove themselves..., time will tell, but sure surprised that he ranks them as he did now.

Bozich with Marquette at 22 on his ballot.

His article is great.

Ranked Bucky at 23.

I like it when our lads are ranked. It's a small thing, but I like when I watch ESPN and we're included in the frequently-updated Top 25 crawl at the bottom of the screen. I'm not sure it will ever help us get a single recruit, but it sure won't hurt.

I especially like it when we win (obviously). If I'm watching something on ESPN and somebody else is with me, every time they show the score I go, "Marquette wins!" It's dopey, sure ... guilty as charged!

Mark Berman (Virginia writer) And Chris Murray (Nevada writer) both did not include Marquette in their ballots.

Berman is the Va Tech writer so he is tainted.

Of the many, many, many ridiculous things you've said over the years, this is in the top 10.

Is the Nevada beat writer also tainted?

I’d almost prefer being “recieving votes”. Make them hungry.

If this team needs to look at preseason rankings to be motivated, then I'm concerned.   Should be plenty of motivation from within, especially with missing the tournament last year.

I believe this is the equivalent to “we cooled on him” in recruiting

Saw us at 19 this morning with first time voter Josh Vitale so there are two sides to the coin.

My guess is we are just oustside at 27

Quick twitter scroll: 3 more people have MU in top 25.

19, 23 and 24 respectively.

We’ll know soon enough!
