Your the only person using the word Prove. I am just stating my opinion. You have a different one.

You seemed to state it as a fact, and you've stated it countless times before.

Glad it's just your opinion, because the only evidence we have on the topic would suggest the exact opposite is true.

This is impossible for you to prove.

It is his opinion.  You have used this line of discussion with several of us lately.  Are we going to need to footnote every remark made moving forward with each fact, or indicate it is an opinion.  Let's all have some fun here and tone it down a notch. Don't worry, be happy.

The butthurt over being called out on a demonstrably wrongheaded "opinion" is coming exclusively from the "facts don't care about your feelings" / "millennials are sensitive snowflakes" / "marketplace of ideas" crowd, I love it!

Yep, EFR, that is quite humorous.

But hey, facts no longer matter in our democratic republic, so why should they matter on Scoop?

I know that there is a lot of hostility for certain posters on this board -- and maybe even for good reason -- but you really need to lighten up.

We're talking about sports.  Herman says "Tiger is still intimidating."  Your response, "This is impossible for you to prove."  Well, no sh*t.  It's obviously an opinion.  A sports opinion, no less.  "You seem state it like it's a fact, and you've stated it countless times before."  Well, no sh*t.  That's what people tend to do with opinions.  Particularly sports opinions.

Quote from: MU82 on August 13, 2018, 09:41:40 PMIf Mickelson can win one at 43, certainly Tiger can.

You seem to state that like its a fact.  But I recognize that it's your opinion, so I won't ask you to prove it.

Besides, you're right.  Tiger will win another major.  Just don't ask me for proof...yet.

If we wanted to take a more broad approach to this line of discussion...

Should opinions be called out if they're demonstrably wrong? Is that acceptable in today's society? If it is acceptable, where is the line? If I can't call out someone's sports opinion, what about someone's opinion that the Earth is flat. Or that vaccines are bad. Etc. Etc.

Facts matter, in my opinion

I have no problem with people calling out opinions that are demonstrably wrong.  Hell, if I did, I'd have stopped visiting this message board (and pretty much all others) a long time ago.  If someone is wrong, have at it.

My comment was more focused on the "you voiced your opinion as if it was a fact" thing, like that's unusual.  Everyone does that.  I do.  MU82 does.  We all do.  Several posters offered ample evidence that the opinion that Tiger was intimidating people was demonstrably wrong.  A stupid opinion was voiced, and it was summarily shot down.  All is right with the world.  So, what's the point whining that the opinion was "stated like it was a fact?"

I never speak in opinions, only facts.

That's how the smartest person in America rolls.

Seriously though, if I indeed got too "heavy" here, I'll try to lighten up, Francis.
