[Paint Touches] WAY Too Early Bracketology
« on: July 03, 2018, 04:08:11 PM »
This our fourth year in a row doing one of these summer bracketologies for fun. This one was considerably more enjoyable to write given MU's prospects. Hopefully Wojo and the guys can deliver!

Thoughts? Comments? Teams too high or too low?

If SJU is so high on value add why do you have them so low?

Value add includes transfer Mustapha Herron but he's yet to receive a transfer waiver.  In the unlikely event that he does, I'm sure TAMU will improve their seeding projection.

Completely reasonable.

If the team gels and they play together, then 5 may even be a tad light.

If we rely on the 3 ball for the bulk of our scoring and don't force the ball inside or rely on hero ball, 5 may be a pipe dream. If we don't play defense, it will be a mirage.

I'm excited for next year but I'm anxious to see how we come together in the months ahead. The talent is there on paper, but can they play together and, can they play defense?

Time will tell.

I’ve long been on paper as saying this is a top 15 team. Agreed. Defense will tell us. Feeling great.

The 3 ball is the least of our problems... ...our offense has been elite since we started relying more on the 3......because we have guys that can really shoot it now.

Forcing the ball inside is typically not a good idea.....  spreading the floor and taking what the defense gives you is smart basketball.

If we play better defense and improve our defensive rebounding percentage we will be a very good team assuming the new pieces fit.

Will be exciting to see how it comes together.

Nothing is guaranteed

Lazar is correct. I'll believe Heron gets a waiver when I see it, not before. If Heron is eligible, they probably end up somewhere in the 5-7 seed range on paper

In line with my thinking as far as MU goes. I like that there are 6 Big East in and 1 more in the discussion.

Will be interesting to see how Big East fares in the non conference. The league has gotten out of the gates strong in recent years and that sustained the high level of tourney bids.

I think Oregon will be a 3, at least.

https://goducks.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

http://www.espn.com/colleges/basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/2483/class/2018

They might be just because I think they will rack up a lot of wins in the terrible PAC 12 but as a power conference champion they will get an inflated seed.

I get that they have a great recruiting class....but it is not like a Duke or Kentucky recruiting class. I think they will struggle more than many think they will.

ND on wrong side of bubble ...

F%cky loses to TCU in R1 ...

And we beat St. Louis, LSU, UNC and Xavier to get to the Final Four.

I can live with that!

I had Butler as an 8 seed instead of a 9.

5 to 7 seed is the guess here.  How healthy are we at key positions.

Everything has been leading up to this point.  We pride ourselves on being a big boy program that decided to reboot and do things in a way that our leadership felt was more resentative of our school.  They never lowered expectations, they simply gave the team time to reach them.  I think expecting a 3 or 4 seed this season is reasonable.

Going forward I would hope we're a team always in contention for the 2nd weekend and every 4 or 5 years in contention for the 3rd weekend.  Those were our results pre 2013 and now the reboot is complete.

Think that would be over achieving, we would be a top 15 team? I expect that the following year. This year I expect top 20-30.

Since they started seeding teams MU has never been better then a 3 seed. We have been a 3 seed 4 times and a 4 seed twice.

They started seeding in 1979.

I'd love to get a3 or 4 seed.......I wont be a expecting it. 5-7 seems reasonable as an expectation to me.

Crean got a 3 seed in year 4
Buzz got a 3 seed in year 4

I think a 3 or 4 seed in year 5 of Wojo is reasonable.

Nothing to do with the years coaches have been at MU. Has to do with players available and expected production. If we ended up a 3-4 seed this year that would be crazy good. Then if no major tranfers we should expect no less than a 3 seed the following year. But no, real expectations ceiling 5 seed. Following year no major transfers we should expect 3-5 seed

And both were promptly dismissed...

So Crean staying three more years is prompt?

And I'm not sure if you know what the word "dismissed" means either.
